The Empty Tomb and the Living Hope

The sermon presents a warm, pastoral message centered on the resurrection and the believer's hope. However, it is marred by a significant factual error regarding the Triumphal Entry and a critical omission in the theological explanation of sanctification, which relies on human effort rather than the Spirit's power. While the pastoral tone is commendable, the theological precision requires correction to ensure the Gospel is presented accurately.

❓ What do these grades mean?
🔍 Biblical Discernment: The 7 Church Parallels
The Faithful Parallels Smyrna • Philadelphia
Teaching that parallels the churches that endure suffering with true spiritual riches (Rev 2:9) and keep the Word of Christ without denial despite having "little strength" (Rev 3:8).
The Cold Orthodox Parallel Ephesus
Teaching that upholds doctrinal precision yet parallels the loss of the "first love"—the vital, motivating power of the Gospel (Rev 2:4).
The Compromised Parallel Pergamum
Teaching that parallels churches tolerating the "doctrine of Balaam" through cultural accommodation (Rev 2:14), characterized by weak boundaries, sloppy theology, and worldly compromise.
The Corrupted & Dead Parallels Thyatira • Sardis • Laodicea
Teaching that parallels churches with active heresy, synergism, therapeutic deism, or dead orthodoxy (Rev 2:20, Rev 3:1, Rev 3:17). These represent systemic, fundamental errors that corrupt the Gospel.

🧐 Overview

Theological Verdict & Summary

Sermon Summary: A reflection on the resurrection of Christ as the conqueror of death and the source of eternal hope, calling believers to live as the living body of Christ.

Pastoral Analysis: The sermon presents a warm, pastoral message centered on the resurrection and the believer's hope.

Biblical Parallel (Archetype): Pergamum — The sermon exhibits a 'Pergamum' archetype, characterized by a tolerance for factual inaccuracy regarding the biblical narrative and a weak theological foundation where the core Gospel engine is compromised. While the pastoral intent is sound, the failure to maintain precise biblical history and the omission of the regenerative work of the Spirit indicate a compromise in doctrinal integrity and homiletical precision.

Big Idea: The resurrection of Christ completes the gospel by conquering death and securing the believer's eternal hope, calling the church to live as the living body of Christ. [00:31:06 ▶️ 📄]

But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain, and your faith is in vain. We are even found to be misrepresenting God, because we testified about God that he raised Christ, whom he did not raise, if that is true, if the dead are not raised. 🧭 Biblical Alignment Dashboard

Overall Verdict: Compromised / Weak

CategoryStatusReasoning
Gospel Presentation ❌ FAIL The Gospel Engine is not fully intact. The report indicates a 'Gospel Engine Omission (Sanctification Pardon)' where the sermon lacked substantive teaching on monergistic regeneration. Although a 'Safe Harbor' was applied due to the exhortations being anchored to Christ's finished work, the core mechanism of the Gospel (regeneration by the Spirit) was omitted.
Soteriology ⚠️ WEAK The sermon omits the doctrine of monergistic regeneration, relying instead on a 'Sanctification Pardon' which acknowledges the gap but does not correct the underlying theological deficiency in the presentation of salvation.
Bibliology ⚠️ WEAK A major factual error was made regarding the biblical account of the Triumphal Entry, misidentifying the animal Jesus rode, which undermines biblical authority and accuracy.
Hermeneutic ⚠️ WEAK The sermon contains a direct contradiction of explicit biblical text regarding the details of the Triumphal Entry, indicating a failure in careful exegesis or factual recall.
Theology Proper ✅ PASS The sermon correctly affirms the deity of Christ, the Trinity (Father and Son), and the historical reality of the resurrection.
Sacramentology ✅ PASS No errors were detected regarding the sacraments.
Confessional Depth ❌ SHALLOW The sermon lacks depth in explaining the mechanics of salvation (regeneration) and contains factual inaccuracies, indicating a shallow engagement with the full counsel of God.

⚙️ The Core Gospel Framework

What is this? This section checks if the sermon contains the essential building blocks of the Gospel. We look for explicit, substantive mentions of God's holy standard, human inability, and Christ's finished work on the cross.

Why it matters for the final verdict: A complete Gospel framework protects a sermon from becoming man-centered. If a preacher gives commands for good behavior but leaves out the grace and atonement of the Gospel, it often results in a 🔴 Critical or 🟠 Major error for Moralism (teaching human self-improvement rather than reliance on Christ). However, if these Gospel elements are missing simply because the pastor is preaching a highly focused, practical message to mature believers (e.g., instructions on biblical marriage), our system applies a "Safe Harbor" pardon, graciously reducing the omission to a 🟡 Minor error.

The Law And Wrath: Not observed in the sermon.

Total Depravity And Inability:

"Willingly, he took on our depravity, our humiliation, our mortality." [00:38:23 ▶️ 📄]

Active Obedience Of Christ:

"In his innocence, he took on our filth, our wretchedness." [00:38:37 ▶️ 📄]

The Cross And Atonement:

"The payment for our sins, the cost of our redemption was paid. It was finished. It was done. It was complete on the cross." [00:31:54 ▶️ 📄]

⚠️ Theological Concerns

🟠 Major Historical Inaccuracy Regarding the Triumphal Entry

Root Cause: Factual Error in Biblical Narrative

"Jesus Christ rode into Jerusalem like a came." [00:35:23 ▶️ 📄]

The Belief/Behavior: The pastor incorrectly stated that Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a camel.

Why It's Dangerous: This factual error undermines the biblical narrative and misrepresents the symbolism of Christ's humble kingship, which is explicitly described as riding on a donkey/colt.

Biblical Correction: Zechariah 9:9 "Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass."

🟡 Minor Incomplete Gospel Presentation

Root Cause: Omission of Regenerative Doctrine

The Belief/Behavior: The sermon lacked substantive teaching on monergistic regeneration, implying a reliance on human willpower for spiritual growth.

Why It's Dangerous: This omission risks leading the congregation to believe that sanctification is achieved by their own effort rather than by the Spirit's power, which can lead to pride or despair.

Biblical Correction: Philippians 2:13 "For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure."

[00:05:44] We pray these things in His precious name, our Lord Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you, O Father.
[00:06:36] and the Holy Ghost, now and forever.
[00:06:40] Amen.
[00:06:42] The Lord Jesus Christ spoke these words, and he said to the disciples, A new command I give you, love one another as I have loved you.
[00:06:55] By this, everyone will know that you are my disciples.
[00:07:01] Lord, have mercy upon us.
[00:07:03] Christ, have mercy upon us.
[00:07:05] Lord, have mercy upon us, and incline our hearts, and direct our steps, that we might always fulfill this commandment. Amen.
[00:07:16] I don't know that we have much in the way of announcements this morning.
[00:07:30] Do we have any announcements? Other than please make sure you join us after church in the hall for breakfast.
[00:07:37] I understand there will be plenty, so please come join us and eat your fill.
[00:07:44] Any announcements that I'm forgetting?

[00:07:47] Carpet, yes.
[00:07:49] Tomorrow, the company will be coming to get the piano and the organ to move them away.
[00:07:57] Whenever we come back to church next week, there will be new carpet in here.
[00:08:03] However, the pews may not be here yet.
[00:08:08] So I will talk to the powers that be that are above my pay grade and ensure that if there are no pews in here that you get a remind text that says, hey, bring a long chair, make sure that the feet are clean.
[00:08:24] Okay?
[00:08:24] So we'll have somewhere to sit.
[00:08:26] Of course, the kids, they're nimble, and they can sit on the floor.
[00:08:29] Of course, we can all sit on the floor.
[00:08:31] It's not getting down, that's the hard part.
[00:08:33] It's the elevation on the other end that's tricky.
[00:08:36] But we'll make sure that everything is taken care of.
[00:08:40] If there are no more announcements, I believe kiddos need to go.

[00:08:43] [SPEAKER SPEAKER_00]
[00:08:43] I have one thing real quick.

[00:08:44] [SPEAKER SPEAKER_02]
[00:08:44] Oh, you have an announcement.

[00:08:46] The Least of These of the Carolinas.

[00:08:47] [SPEAKER SPEAKER_02]
[00:08:47] Least of These of the Carolinas.

[00:08:49] [SPEAKER SPEAKER_00]
[00:08:49] Is wanting us to gear up again for donations for the Shoes of Hope.

[00:09:04] y'all the cadets of the Black Cross went over to least of these of the Carolinas a couple weeks ago that is an amazing amazing amazing program you want to know more about it talk to Angela because she is our liaison with them and they do
[00:09:22] amazing things so talk to her get more information about that and if there's

[00:09:29] [SPEAKER SPEAKER_05]
[00:09:29] nothing else kiddos to the back for me beautiful children of God you look great this morning in this early time isn't it yeah so in the back are you what are you you sure? Yes, she's sure. All right, so, I just tore it, by the way. So, anybody want
[00:12:22] to see what's in this bag? Is it? Nothing. Are you sure? All right, okay. So, on two days, I think it was after Jesus died and was buried in the tomb, two ladies, Mary Magdalene and Mary, his mother, went to the tomb early, early in the morning just like this. They
[00:13:03] wanted to take some spices to put on his body and little did they know that the tomb was sealed with a big rock and then Pilate had told his soldiers to put a great little strap across it so nobody
[00:13:23] you get in it and they got there and anybody knows what happened it was what it was gone that's right the the big rock was gone and was jesus there no what do you think they felt like what huh
[00:13:55] Huh? Confused? He's been alive, and now we've lost him. Oh my goodness.
[00:14:06] You know, it'd be kind of weird. So what if I gave you a present?
[00:14:10] What if I gave you a present? I brought a big old beautiful box wrapped with a big old bow, and I said, here, I have you a present. What would you think?
[00:14:21] Oh my goodness, what's in that box? It looks so pretty.
[00:14:25] So you open it up and there's nothing in there. What would you think? You'd cry. You'd be like, what is she giving me this for? It's just a pretty box, but it's got nothing in it.
[00:14:45] Well, the women were confused also, and I'm sure that there were things that they were thinking, all different kinds of thinking, but there was a bright light shining, and it was an angel, and it said, the angel said, do not be afraid.
[00:15:11] how many times in the Bible do we hear the angels say do not be afraid a lot of times and so I'm sure that that day changed their lives forever but very soon they were able to see Jesus
[00:15:33] and see that he wasn't dead and they were able to rejoice with him and I mean the feeling must have been absolutely wonderful after having seen what they had seen on Friday on the cross
[00:15:48] and then seeing him there.
[00:15:52] It must have been a great feeling.
[00:15:54] A feeling I don't even know if I could describe it.
[00:16:00] Anyway, that's what we're here for today is to celebrate that.
[00:16:04] To celebrate he is risen.
[00:16:09] And a lot of people say he is risen indeed.
[00:16:12] Yes.

[00:16:13] [SPEAKER SPEAKER_04]
[00:16:13] all right so miss Danny has brought a little something for you does everybody

[00:16:50] [SPEAKER SPEAKER_05]
[00:16:50] have one okay so anybody else that didn't come up that would like to have one just see me now last Sunday what did you give out to the congregation Easter eggs right and we told people that if they um wanted to they could put a some money in their
[00:17:17] egg and bring it back this week and um we were going to buy what are we going to send the money for what pen to hope for chickens all those answers were chickens yeah all right so i'm
[00:17:50] I'm going to give you a basket. This basket has a lot in it.
[00:17:55] Let's divide a few out.
[00:17:58] And if they come open, if the eggs come open, don't worry about it.
[00:18:07] But half of you, Keegan, Maggie, Katherine, Michael, August, this way, and I want you to start down that way and see take the basket yeah take that and see who has eggs and here this group going on the other side you might see one laying on the pew
[00:18:40] you got it just thank you for these beautiful children today and we thank you for easter sunday the sunday that we can say jesus is risen. He is risen indeed, and we celebrate that today.
[00:20:25] We ask that you be with us this week, guide us, keep us, and walk with us. In Jesus' name, amen.

[00:20:34] [SPEAKER SPEAKER_02]
[00:20:34] Jesus Christ, come death and open unto us the gate of everlasting life.
[00:21:34] Assist and support us, we beseech you, O Lord.
[00:21:38] The aspirations of your heavenly grace, the dying unto sin every day, and living unto righteousness, we may at last triumph over death and the grave like Christ in the full image of our risen Lord.
[00:21:57] To whom it be in the Holy Ghost be all honor and all glory, world without end.
[00:22:02] Amen.

[00:22:03] [SPEAKER SPEAKER_01]
[00:22:03] The epistle comes from 1 Corinthians 15, beginning in the 12th verse.
[00:22:20] Now, if Christ is proclaimed as raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead?
[00:22:27] But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised.
[00:22:32] And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain, and your faith is in vain.
[00:22:37] We are even found to be misrepresenting God, because we testified about God that he raised Christ, whom he did not raise, if that is true, if the dead are not raised.
[00:22:50] For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised.
[00:22:52] And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile, and you are still in your sins.
[00:22:59] Then those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished.
[00:23:03] If in Christ we have hope, in this life only, we are of all people most to be pitied.
[00:23:10] But in fact, Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.
[00:23:16] Please stand and sing the Old Testament.

[00:23:19] [SPEAKER SPEAKER_02]
[00:23:19] When the Sabbath had ended, the stones, his appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were as white as snow.
[00:27:46] The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and they became like dead men.
[00:27:52] The angel said to the women, do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus who is crucified.
[00:27:59] He is not here, he is risen, just as he said.
[00:28:04] Come and see the place where he lay.
[00:28:07] Then go quickly and tell his disciples.
[00:28:10] He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee.
[00:28:15] There you will see him.
[00:28:17] Now I have told you.
[00:28:19] So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy.
[00:28:23] And they ran to tell the disciples.
[00:28:26] Suddenly Jesus met them.
[00:28:29] Greetings, he said.
[00:28:31] They came to him and they clasped his feet.
[00:28:41] and they worshipped him.
[00:28:44] Then Jesus said to them, Do not be afraid.
[00:28:47] Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee.
[00:28:50] There they will see.
[00:28:52] The Gospel of the Lord.
[00:28:54] Praise be to Jesus.
[00:28:55] ...out of the back cover of the little dingle, or in the book for your convenience.
[00:30:08] I believe in God, the Father, and the Son, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit.
[00:31:06] Today is a beautiful celebration.
[00:31:08] It is the celebration of the completion of the work of Christ's work.
[00:31:17] It is the celebration of the totality, the finishing of the gospel.
[00:31:25] Now, a lot of people think that that comes at odds with Jesus saying, as he is dying, while he is on the cross, he utters the words, It is finished.
[00:31:37] And in many senses it is.
[00:31:41] The work of atonement was complete.
[00:31:44] It was done.
[00:31:46] The payment for our sins, the cost of our redemption was paid.
[00:31:52] It was finished.
[00:31:53] It was done.
[00:31:54] It was complete on the cross.
[00:31:57] But today marks the completion of it all.
[00:32:03] It marks the completion of not only our salvation, but the completion of the Gospel.
[00:32:09] the death of Christ paid the debt. It paid the wage of our sin, of our wickedness. It paid the wage of our mortality. Because we all know that the wages of sin is death. And
[00:32:28] Christ paid it all. He signed the check and handed it over and said, paid in full, it's been taken care of. Don't you worry about it. The Passover sacrifice was done. It was completed. It was fulfilled. You know, in the Old Testament, from the time of the prophets,
[00:32:54] the sacrifice had to be made over and over and over again because it was an insufficient sacrifice. The blood of rams, the blood of goats, the blood of sheep, the blood of doves, whatever creature might be, was a stopgap. It was
[00:33:16] a temporary sacrifice that was intended to protect the sacrificer now.
[00:33:25] Today, their contemporary today, not today, today. When Moses was instructed to kill the lamb, paint his doorposts with it, and then eat the lamb that nothing he left. That sacrifice was intended for this year. Next year, it'd be done again. And so on, and so forth, and
[00:33:53] forever, and ever, until the sacrifice is complete, until the final paschal lamb is is slaughtered. Going back even further to Abraham and to Isaac, they made an offering of their own blood as a placeholder. Abraham offered the blood of his only begotten lawful
[00:34:26] son as a placeholder, as a preparation for what would come in the future. And Abraham was told, this is to be done to every one of your sons and your sons' sons until the sacrifice is complete. It was a placeholder. It was a temporary thing. It was something
[00:34:54] that had to be repeated. It was something that had to be done over and over and over again. But Jesus Christ came into the world. Jesus Christ rode into Jerusalem like a came. Jesus Christ wept over what he found. He wept over the wickedness, over the corruption,
[00:35:23] over the sin that caused his death to be necessary. And yet he went into the city anyway. He saw the corruption, he saw the filth, he saw the wickedness, and he braided a whip with
[00:35:41] his own hands to chastise sin and to clear out corruption. The Lamb of God entered the temple to cast out the sellers of sheep and goats and doves. The perfect sacrifice went him to the temple to make sure that any lesser sacrifice was gone, so that the sacrifice,
[00:36:14] our paschal lamb, our atonement, could be sacrificed and ready.
[00:36:24] A few days later, he was handed over to death.
[00:36:28] Even the judge said, I find no fault.
[00:36:35] The highest legal authority in the land, the representative of the Roman Empire, said, listen, as far as I'm concerned, he is innocent.
[00:36:49] He was declared innocent both by the law of God and the law of man.
[00:36:59] Even the secular government, even the false religion that said we don't care about any of this.
[00:37:07] I can't find anything that he's done.
[00:37:11] But if you want to kill him, it's on you.
[00:37:18] Pilate said, it's not my problem.
[00:37:25] So Jesus was taken.
[00:37:27] He was chastised, not for his own sins, but for the sins of humanity.
[00:37:33] He was chastised for the sins of Jerusalem, the sins of the world, for the sins that you and I have committed.
[00:37:43] And he bore them with it.
[00:37:48] I talk about it often that on the night before, after they had taken what used to be the Passover meal, and Jesus instituted something new, something different, something perpetual.
[00:38:03] They went to a garden, and Jesus knelt, and he said, you know, God, if there's Father, if there's another way, there's a plan B.
[00:38:13] Y'all have heard me say that a lot.
[00:38:14] And the father said, sorry.
[00:38:20] And Jesus said, okay.
[00:38:23] Willingly, he took on our depravity, our humiliation, our mortality.
[00:38:31] And he bore it on his sinless shoulders.
[00:38:37] In his innocence, he took on our filth, our wretchedness.
[00:38:44] And he did it because of love.
[00:38:52] As he hung there in agony and in misery, he uttered the words, it is finished.
[00:39:00] The paschal sacrifice is done.
[00:39:03] There is no need for a Passover year after year.
[00:39:07] There is no need for burnt offerings.
[00:39:09] There is no need for rams and goats and doves and pigeons to shed their blood in atonement because Christ finished it there upon the cross.
[00:39:23] The completion of the whole gospel, not just the forgiveness of sins, but the hope of a resurrection.
[00:39:33] That is the hope that was finished in the resurrection of Christ.
[00:39:38] He did not just submit himself to death, but he rose up and he conquered death and sin and wickedness under his feet.
[00:39:47] He stood on its head.
[00:39:49] He trampled death down underneath his power.
[00:39:55] And as the epistle said, because of his resurrection, we have a hope of resurrection also.
[00:40:05] Death is not the end.
[00:40:08] It is the end of death.
[00:40:10] Death is not the end.
[00:40:13] It is the beginning of the newness of life.
[00:40:16] It is the beginning of glory that we inherit by right because of the blood of Christ.
[00:40:23] That we inherit by right to call ourselves the sons and daughters of the Most High.
[00:40:31] It is because of His blood that we have a blood right.
[00:40:36] It is because of His sacrifice and His resurrection, His glory, His power, that we have a power to proclaim life over death.
[00:40:48] We have a power to proclaim the gospel to a world that is darkened with sin and wickedness and evil.
[00:40:58] You and I are called to demonstrate the gospel, to demonstrate the love, to demonstrate the passion of Christ.
[00:41:11] Because while he is far off, We are His body.
[00:41:17] We are His hands and His feet.
[00:41:19] And we are here.
[00:41:21] And the body is alive.
[00:41:26] You are part of His body.
[00:41:28] You and I.
[00:41:30] Your brothers and your sisters.
[00:41:32] We are bought and we are paid for.
[00:41:34] And in His resurrection, we are given a promise, a guarantee that we too have a place in the resurrection of Christ.
[00:41:47] We have a place that is not temporary, that is not temporal, that is not for a little bit of time, but we have a guarantee, we have a promise, we have an assurance of eternity.
[00:42:02] You all know I like to say it, eternity is a long time.
[00:42:09] I'll finish by quoting one of my favorite hymns.
[00:42:13] When we've been there 10,000 years, bright shining as the sun, we've no less days to sing God's praise than when we first begun.
[00:42:29] That is the assurance that we have.
[00:42:33] We'll be in heaven for 10,000 years singing and basking in the glory of God and we'll have at least 10,000 more and then 10,000 more Rest.
[00:42:55] put your faith in the sure and certain hope in the promise that Christ has made to us in His resurrection. Trusting not only in His, but in your place in His resurrection. And share that
[00:43:16] love. Share that gospel.
[00:43:19] And share that hope with the Lord. Remember the words of our Lord Jesus Christ as He says it is more blessed to give than to receive. The The king shall answer and say unto them, Verily I tell you, and as much as you have done to the least of these, my brethren, you have done also to me. Let us not lay up for ourselves treasures on earth where moth and rust corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal. Instead, let us lay up for ourselves treasures in heaven, where no moth or rust will ever corrupt, and where thieves will never break through and steal.

[00:44:08] [SPEAKER SPEAKER_06]

[00:52:27] through the power of Jesus Christ, our Lord.

[00:55:04] saying, come unto me all you that prevail in a heavy labor. I will.

[00:55:34] come to us against us.
[00:55:47] Jesus took bread into his hands and he broke it and he said this is my body which is given to you.
[00:56:09] Do this in remembrance of me.
[00:56:11] Likewise after In supper, he took the cup and when he did, he thanked.
