Faith as a Feeling: Deconstructing the ‘You Are Already Healed’ Doctrine

[00:00:00] So if you were here this morning when I started talking about really that the whole battle that's going on in society, in individual lives, in your life, it really all comes down to just fighting for the truth.
[00:00:13] Satan's only power is lies and he doesn't always just come out straight forward and say, no, it's not true.
[00:00:20] But he will sow doubt and the scripture says in James chapter 1 that when you ask for wisdom, you have to ask in faith, nothing wavering.
[00:00:29] He that wavers is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
[00:00:33] Let not that man think that he shall receive anything of the Lord.
[00:00:38] Faith, it's not hard to receive, but you have to have a pure faith, a simple faith.
[00:00:43] It doesn't have to be a big faith.
[00:00:45] And if I can talk fast enough, I may get on some of those scriptures here at the end.
[00:00:50] But you don't need a huge faith.
[00:00:53] If you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, it's enough to see a mountain removed and cast into the sea.
[00:00:59] But it can't be counterbalanced, negated, diluted by unbelief.
[00:01:07] And so unbelief, we call it by different names, but it's actually a lie.
[00:01:11] It's Satan sowing things that are contrary to what God's word says.
[00:01:16] So let me just turn over here to Matthew chapter 8.
[00:01:19] And.
[00:01:20] And this is a powerful passage on healing and some of the things that Jesus said.
[00:01:25] But there's a lot of examples of healing right here in Matthew chapter 8.
[00:01:30] In verse 1, it says, When he was come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed him.
[00:01:37] And behold, there came a leper and worshipped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.
[00:01:43] Now, you know, this was appropriate for this guy to say that because he didn't have the written word.
[00:01:49] And he didn't.
[00:01:50] He didn't have the example of Jesus and all of the things that we've got.
[00:01:53] But this is inappropriate for us to say something like this, because the scripture reveals that it is God's will for every single person to be healed every single time.
[00:02:06] And did you know, as I say that, there's some of you thinking, well, I know it says that.
[00:02:10] But what about so and so?
[00:02:11] See that what that's unbelief.
[00:02:13] And it really comes down.
[00:02:14] The only reason we aren't seeing healing manifest is because the word says, my friends.
[00:02:20] Acts 10, 38, how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with power and with the Holy Ghost, who went about doing good, healing all that were oppressed of the devil, not oppressed of God.
[00:02:31] They were oppressed of the devil.
[00:02:33] And Jesus healed them all.
[00:02:35] And then there are just so many scriptures.
[00:02:37] First Peter 2, 24, by the latter part of that, by his stripes, we were healed.
[00:02:43] Beloved, I wish above all things that you may prosper and be in health, even as your soul prospers.
[00:02:48] Third John chapter 1, verse 2.
[00:02:50] The scriptures say that it's God's will to heal.
[00:02:53] But when I say it's God's will to heal every person, immediately some of you think about, well, this person said that and they said they were believing and they died.
[00:03:04] And so what we do, we let our physical circumstances, the things that we see and feel, negate the word of God.
[00:03:13] The word of God is just super clear that God has already healed us.
[00:03:18] By his stripes, we were healed.
[00:03:19] It's a done deal, but it's these reservations, these doubts that we have that cause the healing, not the manifest, not God.
[00:03:28] Who's not giving it's us who aren't receiving.
[00:03:31] So it was appropriate for him to say, if you will, because they didn't know.
[00:03:35] But Jesus turned around and said, I will be thou clean.
[00:03:39] So now we can't answer this question anymore.
[00:03:42] We can't say, God, is it your will to heal me?
[00:03:45] If it be your will, heal me.
[00:03:47] And Jesus reached forth his hand.
[00:03:49] And touched him.
[00:03:50] And of course, this was a leper.
[00:03:51] And by Jesus touching him, according to the Old Testament law, this made Jesus unclean.
[00:03:57] But you know, Jesus was in a category all his own.
[00:04:01] Instead of him being defiled by somebody who was unclean, they got clean by him.
[00:04:07] Because man, his anointing and the power in him was so much greater than the things that were in others.
[00:04:13] And then it goes on.
[00:04:14] The next thing is that there was a centurion that had a servant that was sick.
[00:04:19] And he asked the Lord to come and heal his servant.
[00:04:21] And as Jesus was going, he sent a messenger.
[00:04:24] And he said, I don't need you to come under my roof.
[00:04:26] I'm not worthy for you to come under my roof.
[00:04:29] If you will speak the word only, my servant shall be healed.
[00:04:33] And look at what Jesus said when he heard this.
[00:04:35] Down in verse 10.
[00:04:37] When Jesus heard it, he marveled.
[00:04:39] There's only two instances in scripture where Jesus marveled.
[00:04:42] This is one of them at this man's great faith.
[00:04:45] And the other time it says he marveled at his disciples' unbelief.
[00:04:49] He was amazed how a Gentile, what we would say today, a non-believer could have such great faith.
[00:04:56] And he was amazed that people who had spent three and a half years with him could be so dull.
[00:05:02] There's a reason that they were called disciples.
[00:05:07] He said he marveled and said unto them that followed him, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.
[00:05:18] And then he goes on and talks about, all of the Jews who were God's chosen people who were supposed to have a corner on God and have a special relationship with him.
[00:05:27] He says there's going to be people come from all over the world, from different nations and stuff.
[00:05:31] And they're going to be operating more faith than you are, which was super offensive to the Jews when he said that, because they thought that they had a special relationship with God.
[00:05:42] And I've got a whole teaching on this.
[00:05:44] I'm just going to mention this.
[00:05:45] I'm not going to stay here.
[00:05:46] But if you contrast this centurion, this centurion's faith with Thomas's faith, which was one of his 12 apostles in John chapter 20, after Jesus was resurrected from the dead, he appeared unto his disciples, but Thomas wasn't with him.
[00:06:03] And so they told Thomas later that we've seen the Lord and he's alive.
[00:06:07] And Thomas said, unless I can see with my eyes and the print of the nails and put my finger into the print of the nails and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe.
[00:06:19] If you were to really meditate on those verses, unbelief, reservations, doubts are things that you willed.
[00:06:28] He said, I will not believe.
[00:06:30] Doubt is not something that just overtakes us and it possesses us and we can't seem to break free of it.
[00:06:38] Doubt comes from thoughts.
[00:06:40] Doubt comes from values.
[00:06:42] But doubt comes from ways of thinking, not just individual thoughts, but a paradigm, a way of looking at things.
[00:06:49] And we have all been taught how to doubt.
[00:06:54] And I know some of you think, oh, not me.
[00:06:58] Yes, you have.
[00:06:59] We've been brought up in a, this is a culture of unbelief.
[00:07:03] And we don't even recognize it.
[00:07:05] We've been taught to believe that only what you can see, taste, hear, smell, and feel is true.
[00:07:10] And that you're foolish and you're crazy if you're sitting here saying that something is so when you can't prove it, when they can't put it in a test tube.
[00:07:17] I have people come to me all the time and say, if your son was really raised from the dead, why don't you get a doctor's report?
[00:07:22] Why don't you prove this?
[00:07:24] And let's prove to people.
[00:07:25] Let's make people believe.
[00:07:27] They'll say the same thing about Noah's Ark.
[00:07:29] If they've, you know, I've seen pictures of Noah's Ark.
[00:07:33] Anyway, I'm not going to go into all that, but there's proof to all of these things.
[00:07:37] And they say, why don't we prove and just make people believe?
[00:07:40] This goes along with what Jesus was saying.
[00:07:42] He gave a parable about a man who died and went to hell and in hell, he saw Lazarus there.
[00:07:48] And he said, Abraham, send Lazarus, dip his finger in water and come to cool my tongue.
[00:07:54] And he says, he can't, there's a great gulf in between us and you can't pass over it.
[00:07:58] And he says, well, then send Lazarus back to tell my brothers so that they don't come into this terrible place where I am.
[00:08:04] And he says, they have Moses and the prophets.
[00:08:07] And he says, well, then they won't listen to the prophets, but if somebody rose from the dead, they'd believe.
[00:08:14] And he says, if they don't believe Moses and the prophets, they will not believe though one rose from the dead.
[00:08:20] And see people who are saying, let's do something.
[00:08:22] Let's get these artifacts.
[00:08:23] Let's do things and prove to people and make people believe.
[00:08:27] The Bible says in Romans 10, 17, so then faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God.
[00:08:33] Faith does not come through seeing miracles.
[00:08:35] Faith does not come through you proving something.
[00:08:39] You can't argue a person into relationship with God.
[00:08:42] Faith has to be embraced.
[00:08:44] It has to come through the word of God and you can't get it by proving.
[00:08:48] Proving something or making people believe.
[00:08:51] Now miracles, when a person sees a miracle, if their heart is already open, but they're just struggling with some doubt, well then seeing a miracle can help you reject some of your unbelief.
[00:09:02] But the faith that it takes to see a miracle only comes through the word of God.
[00:09:07] And so my point is that we've been taught to say, but if I can't see it or hear it or feel it, it doesn't exist.
[00:09:16] That's unbelief.
[00:09:17] You were taught a lie.
[00:09:18] There is a whole spiritual world out there and inside of you.
[00:09:23] And the Bible teaches us all of these things.
[00:09:26] And yet there's a lot of people that have just been trained to believe that, well, I've got a doctor's report.
[00:09:31] This proves that I'm not healed.
[00:09:33] You say that I am healed.
[00:09:35] This says I'm not healed.
[00:09:36] Which is it?
[00:09:37] It's both.
[00:09:39] In the spirit, you are healed.
[00:09:41] God's supernatural power that raised Christ from the dead lives on the inside of you and it's a done deal, but it has to flow through your soul and then out through your body.
[00:09:54] And if you're sitting there thinking that God hasn't moved, nothing has happened until I can see it, feel it, until a doctor can prove it, then that's unbelief.
[00:10:04] And you've wavered.
[00:10:05] You've doubted.
[00:10:06] You're double-minded and a double-minded man shall not receive anything of the Lord.
[00:10:11] James chapter one.
[00:10:13] And so then the next instance right here, he goes down and he goes into Peter's, uh, house and Peter's mother-in-law was sick.
[00:10:22] For those of you that believe that Peter was the first Pope and that he was celibate, uh, it's hard to have a mother-in-law if you don't have a wife.
[00:10:31] That is all religious tradition.
[00:10:33] And this is another lie that people have embraced and believed.
[00:10:37] And this is one reason that there's so many Catholic priests that are homosexuals because God gave them a sexual drive and they won't allow them to have a normal relationship between them.
[00:10:48] Between a man and a woman.
[00:10:49] And so they wind up being homosexuals.
[00:10:51] It's not meant to be that way.
[00:10:53] So he went into Peter's house and it says in verse 14, when Jesus come into Peter's house, he saw his wife's mother laid and sick of a fever and he touched her hand and the fever left her and she arose and ministered unto them.
[00:11:10] When even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils and he cast out the spirits with his word.
[00:11:18] And, and healed all that were sick.
[00:11:21] Did you know that there's 14 separate times in the gospels where Jesus healed every single person that was sick.
[00:11:30] Now there's some other instances where he healed one or two at a time.
[00:11:34] And there's only one instance that I'm aware of in the gospels, Mark chapter six, verse five, where he didn't heal everybody.
[00:11:41] And it says that he could not, it didn't say he would not, but he could not do many mighty things.
[00:11:47] He works because of their unbelief.
[00:11:51] Mark chapter six, verse five and six, compared with Matthew 13, 58.
[00:11:56] Those are the same instances.
[00:11:57] And you put them together.
[00:11:59] He couldn't do it because of their unbelief.
[00:12:02] Jesus was not operating in any lack of power whatsoever.
[00:12:05] He was walking 100% in the full manifestation of God's power.
[00:12:11] And yet in a, in his hometown where people didn't respect him because they saw him grow up, as a little child, you know, uh, familiarity breeds contempt.
[00:12:22] And Jesus even said that a prophet is not without honor, except in his own house and in his own kin and stuff.
[00:12:29] So when people are familiar with you, they don't respect you.
[00:12:32] And they didn't respect him.
[00:12:33] They said, isn't this Joseph, Joseph's son and aren't his brothers and sisters all here?
[00:12:39] No, they were wrong.
[00:12:40] This wasn't Joseph's son.
[00:12:41] Amen.
[00:12:43] He was born of a virgin and they didn't honor him.
[00:12:47] They didn't.
[00:12:47] They didn't respect him.
[00:12:48] And that lack of trusting him and believing who he was is what stopped the supernatural healing power of God from operating in his life.
[00:12:59] And, but in this instance and every other place, except that one place, he healed every person that was present.
[00:13:07] And in verse 17, that it might be fulfilled, which was spoken by Isaiah, the prophet saying himself, took our infirmities and bear our sicknesses.
[00:13:16] And so the scripture, God here says that by Jesus healing these people, that was a fulfillment of the prophecy that was spoken by Isaiah, Isaiah chapter 53 verses four and five, where Jesus took our sicknesses and our diseases.
[00:13:30] Healing is a part of the atonement just as surely as forgiveness of sins is a part of what Jesus came to do.
[00:13:38] He also healed you just as much as he has forgiven your sins.
[00:13:43] But one of the reasons people can receive salvation, I'm assuming that the, the vast majority of people here are born again and you've already received that.
[00:13:52] Did you know receiving a healing is easier than receiving salvation?
[00:13:58] And yet most people think, Oh no, it isn't.
[00:14:00] I received salvation with very little effort.
[00:14:03] The reason is because salvation is something that you can't see.
[00:14:07] You can't feel it.
[00:14:08] Now you can have some effect on your feelings.
[00:14:11] You can feel joy.
[00:14:12] You could feel a release from the oppression that Satan had put you under.
[00:14:15] But I'm saying, basically, you can't put salvation in a test tube.
[00:14:20] You can't prove it.
[00:14:20] You can't go to a doctor and say, would you run a test to see if I'm saved?
[00:14:24] They can't do that.
[00:14:26] And so you had to believe for something that you couldn't see and you just accepted it.
[00:14:32] But when it comes to healing, people believe that if God really healed me, if anything was happened, then my pain ought to be gone.
[00:14:40] My vision ought to be right.
[00:14:41] I ought to be able to do this.
[00:14:43] I ought to be able to go to the doctors and get it verified.
[00:14:46] And so you don't believe the same for healing as you did for forgiveness of sins.
[00:14:52] I can guarantee you since you've been born again, there's some time or another that you've been discouraged.
[00:14:57] Maybe you didn't feel saved.
[00:14:59] Maybe somebody came out against you, something happened and you didn't feel saved and yet you didn't go by how you felt.
[00:15:05] You didn't reject your salvation because today I don't feel saved.
[00:15:10] But if you don't feel healed, if you have a pain, if the doctor still says that, you still got cancer, people believe that it doesn't take more faith to get healed than it does to get saved.
[00:15:26] But it takes a simple faith that doesn't waver.
[00:15:29] And the sad fact is most of us are more controlled by what we see, taste, hear, smell and feel by what our physical circumstances say than we are by God's word.
[00:15:42] What the Bible calls that is carnal.
[00:15:46] A lot of people think that carnal is referring to people who are murderers, rapists, et cetera.
[00:15:52] And that is all carnal, but not all carnality is sin.
[00:15:56] Carnal just means that you're controlled by your five senses.
[00:16:00] Your five senses dominate you more than what God's word says more than what faith does.
[00:16:06] And so a person who prays and says, God, I believe your word says by your stripes, I'm healed.
[00:16:11] So they pray and then they're just looking for instantly everything to be gone.
[00:16:16] And if they don't see it, if they don't feel it, if the doctor doesn't verify it, then immediately they start being carnal.
[00:16:24] They start letting their senses dominate them.
[00:16:27] They start saying, but this is more real.
[00:16:31] I hope you understand what I'm saying.
[00:16:33] This is, this is the, you can talk about a lot of things you can talk about.
[00:16:39] We don't understand the love of God.
[00:16:41] Sometimes people think, well, I deserve this and God's put, and there's a lot of things involved in, in healing.
[00:16:46] But I think that the bottom line is that most people are just controlled more by what they see and what they feel than they are by the word of God.
[00:16:57] They have unbelief that came through believing a lie.
[00:17:01] So what I want to do, I've all of this is introduction.
[00:17:05] And I want to say that I just want to share with you some real simple things that will help you recognize that God is a spirit.
[00:17:11] John chapter four, verse twenty four.
[00:17:13] God is a spirit.
[00:17:14] And those who worship him, must worship him in spirit and in truth.
[00:17:18] It would be accurate to say that God is a spirit.
[00:17:20] And if you're going to receive your healing, you have to receive it in spirit and in truth.
[00:17:26] God's word is truth.
[00:17:28] And then the physical manifestation is a byproduct, but it is not the real thing.
[00:17:37] If you, it's like Nerissa was saying that she wasn't, it wasn't really just the physical healing.
[00:17:42] It was the deliverance from all of the other stuff.
[00:17:44] And if you were to hear her, her whole testimony again, I'll butcher it if I try and say all of this Nerissa, but she was pregnant and went into the hospital.
[00:17:53] How long?
[00:17:54] A year in the hospital?
[00:17:56] How long?
[00:17:56] How long?
[00:17:57] Four months in the hospital.
[00:17:59] But it was a year after your pregnancy and before she, and she had all these things, lost her hair, had cut part of her scalp off and all of these things.
[00:18:09] But it caused so much emotional and intellectual problems and stuff, that that was the real healing.
[00:18:17] When she got healed in her heart and began to start thinking properly, well then as you think in your heart, that's the way that you will be in your body.
[00:18:26] And she got healed in her heart first before she got healed in her body.
[00:18:31] You've got to get to where this is more real to you than what you can see, taste, hear, smell, and feel.
[00:18:38] And a lot of people think, oh, you're just, this is strange.
[00:18:42] Well, I think you're strange.
[00:18:45] You can get to where this is more real to you than anything else.
[00:18:49] And so I'm going to say a lot of things here.
[00:18:52] And just for time's sake, I'm going to quote a lot of things, but over in Hebrews chapter 11, verse one, now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
[00:19:04] It didn't say the evidence of things don't exist.
[00:19:07] They do exist, but it's existing in an unseen realm.
[00:19:11] There is a spiritual world that most people are not aware of, because again, they're carnal.
[00:19:17] They are just going by what they can see, taste, hear, smell, and feel.
[00:19:20] And again, this is not to criticize anybody.
[00:19:22] All of us were raised this way.
[00:19:24] We were raised to just, you know, operate in reality, quit living in a fantasy.
[00:19:30] And we're told that it's foolish, it's childlike for you to believe all of these things.
[00:19:36] And we are taught, they just constantly beat faith out of us.
[00:19:42] I remember one time I was leading a worship at a Full Gospel Businessmen's thing, and this little kid was just dancing like, I mean, they were just beside themselves.
[00:19:54] It was awesome.
[00:19:55] And anyway, I got up and I said, did you know at one time, all of us were kind of like that, but as you grow up, you are taught to put restraints on you and to worry about what people say.
[00:20:06] And we do all of these things and it just smothers us and we get to where we restrain ourself.
[00:20:12] And this little girl, it turned out, she had called in after one of my radio programs and she had pulled boiling water off on her, had third degree burns.
[00:20:23] Is that the worst?
[00:20:25] Third degree?
[00:20:26] Anyway, she had the worst burns that you could get.
[00:20:28] And she had her whole chest and arm were totally covered with bandages and salve over it that the lady had taken her to the doctor.
[00:20:38] And anyway, she called in and asked for prayer.
[00:20:40] And that was that day and that night, she came and she was, the lady was changing the bandages.
[00:20:47] And as she took the bandages off to put some more stuff on, her flesh was back to totally normal.
[00:20:52] And this little five-year-old girl was just dancing and praising God and stuff like that.
[00:20:59] And this is one of the reasons Jesus said that a little child will lead us because a little child, they just trust.
[00:21:05] They just believe.
[00:21:06] They don't have enough sophistication to talk themself out of their healing.
[00:21:11] And she just believed.
[00:21:12] And she just believed.
[00:21:13] It was awesome.
[00:21:16] So faith is the ability to see into the unseen.
[00:21:20] It's the ability to believe something that you can't see, taste, hear, smell, or feel.
[00:21:28] That's important.
[00:21:30] It didn't, faith isn't believing something that isn't real.
[00:21:34] And if you'll believe it hard enough, it'll become real.
[00:21:37] No, it is real.
[00:21:38] It's just in the spirit realm.
[00:21:40] Everything that God does, God is a spirit.
[00:21:43] And God moves in the spirit realm.
[00:21:45] And Jesus said this in John chapter three, when he was talking to Nicodemus, he says, "'That which is born of the flesh is flesh, "'and that which is born of the spirit is spirit.'" And that's just a way of saying that spirit is spirit, flesh is flesh.
[00:21:57] There is no connection between the two, except your soul.
[00:22:01] Your soul is the bridge, the connector.
[00:22:04] And when you start operating in faith, faith allows what is true in the spirit realm to come over into the physical realm.
[00:22:12] And when you start operating in faith, faith allows what is true in the spirit realm to come over into the physical realm.
[00:22:13] And when you start operating in faith, faith allows what is true in the spirit realm to come over into the physical realm.
[00:22:13] But faith, you have to believe that these things already exist.
[00:22:17] It's already done.
[00:22:18] By the stripes of Jesus, you were healed 2,000 years ago.
[00:22:22] One of the reasons you were able to believe for salvation is because they didn't tell you that if you would pray, and if you would ask God to forgive you, let's just pray and see if he'll forgive you.
[00:22:34] And so you pray and then depending on how you feel, you say, oh yeah, I feel like I'm forgiven.
[00:22:42] That's not the way you do it.
[00:22:43] I've actually had people come before and I've prayed with them.
[00:22:46] And I, you know, Mark, Matthew, where is that?
[00:22:50] Romans chapter 10, verse nine.
[00:22:52] If you'll confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart, God raised him from the dead, you shall be saved.
[00:22:57] And I'll have somebody pray and I'll say, so are you saved?
[00:22:59] Do you believe?
[00:23:00] Well, I guess.
[00:23:03] And I said, what do you mean you guess?
[00:23:04] He said, this is what God said.
[00:23:06] Is God a liar?
[00:23:07] Oh no, he would never lie.
[00:23:08] Well, then God said, if you would confess with your mouth that Jesus is your Lord and believe in your heart, God raised him from the dead, you shall be saved.
[00:23:16] So did you do that?
[00:23:17] Yes, I did it.
[00:23:18] So did God lie?
[00:23:19] No, he didn't lie.
[00:23:20] So are you saved?
[00:23:21] Well, I guess so.
[00:23:22] And they'll sit there and they'll receive salvation because this is what the word says.
[00:23:28] And they don't feel it.
[00:23:29] They don't see it, but they believe it.
[00:23:31] But when it comes to healing, people will come and pray and they'll pray.
[00:23:35] And then if they don't feel it, if they don't see it, they don't believe it's done.
[00:23:39] If that's the way that you approach salvation, you wouldn't have gotten saved because you didn't feel saved.
[00:23:46] You didn't look saved.
[00:23:48] You just believe what the word says.
[00:23:50] If we would do the exact same thing with healing, you would get healed.
[00:23:54] But we immediately are expecting to see a physical manifestation.
[00:23:59] And there's a balance to what I'm saying.
[00:24:00] I'm not saying that you just believe and never see anything happen.
[00:24:04] If your faith is operating properly, you will see things change.
[00:24:08] But in the 11th, 11th chapter of the book of Mark, Jesus spoke to a fig tree and he said, no man will eat fruit of you hereafter forever.
[00:24:17] And did you know, immediately it says in Matthew's account of that, that the fig tree died.
[00:24:22] But in Mark's account, Mark chapter 11, it was the next day that his disciples walked by that fig tree and they saw it withered, dried up from the roots.
[00:24:33] And they said, master, look, the fig tree that you cursed is dead.
[00:24:37] And people think, well, how come it didn't happen immediately?
[00:24:41] It did happen immediately, but it happened in the roots below the ground.
[00:24:45] You couldn't see it.
[00:24:47] It's the same thing.
[00:24:48] When you pray immediately, the supernatural healing power of God releases it, but it's in the spirit realm.
[00:24:55] And if you don't have any faith, there is no bridge for what's happening in the spirit realm to come over into the physical realm.
[00:25:01] You have to get to where you can believe that something is happening beyond your ability to see, taste, hear, smell, and feel.
