❓ What do these grades mean?
We do not issue this rating to attack the speaker, but to protect the listener. This ministry's overall teaching trend consistently deviates from sound doctrine. As per Romans 16:17, we identify these patterns so believers can guard their hearts.
🧐 Overview
Theological Verdict & Summary
Sermon Summary: A sermon exploring the theme of God using unlikely means, but ultimately compromised by a message that demands immediate human decision for salvation and promises material provision in exchange for generosity.
Pastoral Analysis: While the sermon attempts to encourage trust in God's provision, it fundamentally fails to present the Gospel of Grace. It substitutes the monergistic work of God with synergistic human effort, utilizing coercive tactics to secure a decision and promising prosperity based on transactional giving. The message is spiritually dangerous, leading listeners to rely on their own actions rather than Christ's finished work.
Biblical Parallel (Archetype): Sardis — The sermon presents a 'name that it is alive, but is dead' orthodoxy. While it utilizes biblical language and imagery, it fundamentally relies on synergistic soteriology and decisional regeneration, attributing the power of salvation to human prayer and decision rather than God's sovereign grace. This dead orthodoxy is compounded by coercive evangelism and subjective authority, creating a system of works-based assurance that lacks the life-giving power of the true Gospel.
Big Idea: God uses what the world considers stupid or strategic surrender to fulfill His promises, calling believers to trust in His presence, protection, and provision rather than relying on human wisdom. [00:11:11 ▶️ 📄]
📖 How they Handle Scripture & Jesus
- Primary Text: Genesis 28:13
- Usage Classification: Thematic
- Text-to-Talk Ratio: Moderate
- Pulpit Decorum: ❌ FAIL - The sermon employs coercive evangelism and psychological pressure to manipulate the congregation into making a decision, violating the dignity and freedom of the Holy Spirit in conviction.
✝️ Christological Focus: Moralistic/Imitative
"Christ is presented as an example of trust or a means to an end (provision/salvation) rather than the sole object of faith and the source of grace. The focus is on the believer's action (prayer, giving) rather than Christ's finished work."

Genesis 28:13-22
[00:07:21 ▶️ 📄]
"I am the Lord the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give you and your descendants the land on which you are lying. Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south. All peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring. I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I'll bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I promised you. When Jacob awoke from his sleep, he thought, Surely the Lord is in this place. He was afraid and said, How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God. This is the gate of heaven. Early the next morning Jacob took the stone he had placed under his head and set it up as a pillar and poured oil on top of it. He called that place Bethel, which means house of God. Then Jacob made a vow, saying, If God will be with me and will watch over me on the journey I am taking and will give me food to eat and clothes to wear so that I return safely to my father's household, then the Lord will be my God. and this stone that I have set up as a pillar will be God's house and of all that you give me God I know you're my source of all that you give me I have nothing without you of all that you give me I will give you a tenth"

Sermon Illustration
[00:12:51 ▶️ 📄]
> The pastor recounts a testimony from a campus pastor who went through a difficult season where God brought resolution. The pastor reflects that what the pastor later explained as 'strategy' was actually experienced in real-time as 'surrender' because he didn't know what else to do. -

[00:16:20 ▶️ 📄]
> The pastor shares an anecdote about meeting a financial advisor who asked for immediate trust based on a single meeting; the pastor rejected this, stating trust must be built on results over years, not just a nice smile or button-down shirt. -

Sermon Illustration
[00:37:43 ▶️ 📄]
> The pastor shares a personal testimony about his early marriage, where he refused to use layaway services like Klarna for furniture, resulting in their home being filled with repoed furniture from his father-in-law's trailer park. Sermon Illustration
[00:39:20 ▶️ 📄]
> The pastor describes reaching his emergency fund goal and feeling proud, only to be prompted by the Lord to give it all away. He initially thought the prompting was from Satan because it contradicted Dave Ramsey's advice to save. Sermon Illustration
[00:32:24 ▶️ 📄]

Years later, he finally surrendered to Christ, illustrating the danger of conditional faith ('If God does X, then I will believe') versus immediate trust.

🧭 Biblical Alignment Dashboard
Overall Verdict: Fundamentally in Error
| Category | Status | Reasoning |
|---|---|---|
| Gospel Presentation | ❌ FAIL | The Gospel Engine is broken. The sermon replaces the core message of grace with a transactional model of salvation (sinner's prayer) and provision (prosperity gospel). The engine fails to distinguish between justification by faith alone and sanctification by works, resulting in a message of self-powered growth and decisional regeneration. |
| Soteriology | ❌ FAIL | The sermon teaches synergistic soteriology, claiming that reciting a prayer effects salvation and that human generosity obligates God to provide. This denies the sovereignty of God in salvation and reduces grace to a transaction. |
| Bibliology | ❌ FAIL | The pastor elevates subjective, extra-biblical revelation ('The Lord told me to preach...') to the same level of authority as Scripture, undermining the sufficiency and finality of the Bible. |
| Hermeneutic | ⚠️ WEAK | The sermon uses a thematic, proof-texting approach that ignores the broader biblical context of grace and covenant, twisting Scripture to support a message of human effort and conditional blessing. |
| Theology Proper | ⚠️ WEAK | The view of God is transactional and conditional, portraying Him as a deity who must be 'bribed' or 'persuaded' through human action to provide blessing, rather than the sovereign, gracious Father who gives freely. |
| Sacramentology | ✅ PASS | No specific sacramental errors were detected in the provided reports. |
| Confessional Depth | ❌ FAIL | The sermon lacks depth in understanding the nature of grace, the sovereignty of God, and the sufficiency of Scripture, relying instead on emotional appeals and personal anecdotes. |
⚙️ The Core Gospel Framework
Why it matters for the final verdict: A complete Gospel framework protects a sermon from becoming man-centered. If a preacher gives commands for good behavior but leaves out the grace and atonement of the Gospel, it often results in a 🔴 Critical or 🟠 Major error for Moralism (teaching human self-improvement rather than reliance on Christ). However, if these Gospel elements are missing simply because the pastor is preaching a highly focused, practical message to mature believers (e.g., instructions on biblical marriage), our system applies a "Safe Harbor" pardon, graciously reducing the omission to a 🟡 Minor error.
❌ The Law And Wrath: Not observed in the sermon.
✅ Total Depravity And Inability:
"Heavenly Father, I am a sinner in need of a Savior" [01:01:02 ▶️ 📄]
❌ Active Obedience Of Christ: Not observed in the sermon.
✅ The Cross And Atonement:
"The Messiah died on a cross." [00:47:13 ▶️ 📄]
⚠️ Theological Concerns
🔴 Critical Synergistic Soteriology (Decisional Regeneration)
Root Cause: Semi-Pelagianism / Decisionism
"This prayer is you expressing to God your faith in Jesus Christ. It's not a magical prayer, but a miracle happens when you pray it... This is your then. This is the moment for you to give your life to Christ." [01:00:25 ▶️ 📄]
The Belief/Behavior: He states, 'It's not a magical prayer, but a miracle happens when you pray it... This is the moment for you to give your life to Christ.'
Why It's Dangerous: This teaches that the human act of praying a specific prayer is the causal mechanism for salvation, attributing the power of regeneration to human decision rather than God's sovereign grace.
Biblical Correction: For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.
🔴 Critical Coercive Evangelism (Emotional Manipulation)
Root Cause: Moralistic Therapeutic Deism / Emotionalism
"Please, right now, don't let this moment pass you by. What is God going to have to do to get your attention? What is God going to have to do to show you how much he loves you? ... Stop running and believe. Stop doubting and have faith." [01:00:13 ▶️ 📄]
The Belief/Behavior: He asks, 'What is God going to have to do to get your attention? ... Stop running and believe. Stop doubting and have faith.'
Why It's Dangerous: This bypasses genuine, unhurried conviction of the Holy Spirit, replacing it with psychological urgency and fear. It treats salvation as a decision made under duress rather than a response to grace.
Biblical Correction: For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.
🔴 Critical Prosperity Gospel (Transactional Provision)
Root Cause: Prosperity Gospel / Transactionalism
"If you'll keep your hands open to me… Then you will always have everything you need. You will always be able to do everything I've called you to do." [00:40:53 ▶️ 📄]
The Belief/Behavior: He claims, 'If you'll keep your hands open to me… Then you will always have everything you need. You will always be able to do everything I've called you to do.'
Why It's Dangerous: This reduces God's provision to a transactional exchange, where human giving obligates God to bless. It creates a false theology of prosperity and conditional blessing.
Biblical Correction: But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
🔴 Critical Subjective Authority (Extra-Biblical Revelation)
Root Cause: Continuationism / Subjectivism
"The Lord told me to preach to you today three words." [00:11:14 ▶️ 📄]
The Belief/Behavior: He states, 'The Lord told me to preach to you today three words.'
Why It's Dangerous: This elevates personal revelation to the same level of authority as Scripture, undermining the sufficiency and finality of the Bible. It creates a dependency on the pastor's subjective experience rather than the objective Word of God.
Biblical Correction: All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

[00:04:20] I don't want to add to it.
[00:04:21] Just what he said.
[00:04:22] I pray that in these moments you would just create that quiet place inside of you away from all the noise.
[00:04:29] I know you have three people you need to text back.
[00:04:31] I know you have somebody you don't want to see that you have to meet up with at 2.45 today.
[00:04:36] None of that matters right now.
[00:04:38] The Lord is in this place.
[00:04:42] And wherever you are, I say it with equal confidence.
[00:04:44] You say, well, I'm not in a church building.
[00:04:46] The Lord is in that place.
[00:04:51] You say, well, I'm not in a really good place right now, man.
[00:04:53] I really haven't been doing good.
[00:04:54] I've really just been struggling back with some old things again.
[00:04:57] The Lord is in that place.
[00:05:01] So, as we receive God's Word and we stand on God's promise and we thank him for his presence, let's study together in Genesis 28-13.
[00:05:12] y'all think when I preach a scripture two weeks in a row it's because I didn't want to study the second week it's really just because I didn't get it done the first week I'm gonna read some of the first half where Jacob is running from his brother Esau who wants to kill him and Esau is good with a bow and arrow by the way Jacob is good with kitchen utensils and Esau is good with weapons so when Jacob steals the blessing from Esau he gets blessed but
[00:05:41] Have you ever been blessed but?
[00:05:46] That's why Thanksgiving is a complicated holiday.
[00:05:49] Man, it's such a blessing to have all of our family together.
[00:05:55] But, well, I'm gonna let y'all sort that out on Thursday.
[00:05:59] This is the day that the Lord has made.
[00:06:01] Everybody put in the chat, blessed but.
[00:06:03] Tell your neighbor real quick, I'm blessed but.
[00:06:07] He's blessed but he's also blessed.
[00:06:09] in a time of isolation.
[00:06:11] He's on his way 400 miles from his father's house to stay with his uncle Laban for a little while until he figures out exactly what he's going to do next.
[00:06:20] I preached last week on your next messy step, just to let you know that it's not always clear, and that's okay.
[00:06:28] If you just be strong and courageous, every place you set your foot, God will give it to you as you go.
[00:06:34] But you can't get paralyzed now.
[00:06:36] You can't let the fact that you can't see the next 500 steps keep you from taking the next one.
[00:06:43] Now, as Jacob is trying to get some sleep on the hard ground with a pillow made out of a rock under his head,
[00:06:51] The Bible says that there was a ladder that came from heaven and there above it verse 13 stood the Lord and he said I am the Lord the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac notice he does not yet say I'm the God of Jacob because Jacob has not made that decision yet for himself that's what we're going to find out is he going to be your God too
[00:07:21] And he told him, I'm the generational God who made a promise to your grandfather and your father.
[00:07:28] I will give you and your descendants the land on which you are lying.
[00:07:32] Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south.
[00:07:44] It makes me think chunks about all these campuses that God has given us all over the place.
[00:07:48] The Lord even gave us one in Canada.
[00:07:52] Happy month-late Canadian Thanksgiving to our Toronto campuses.
[00:07:57] God is going to do something so mind-blowing, something so much bigger than just our church or our campuses.
[00:08:03] This is God's original promise.
[00:08:05] to his people, to his nation, Israel.
[00:08:07] Now, of course, we're standing in that promise today, as most of us who are maybe Gentiles by birth are grafted in through Christ.
[00:08:16] That promise is being spoken over Jacob.
[00:08:19] He said, You're going to spread out like dust.
[00:08:21] It's going to be messy, but I'm going to do it.
[00:08:24] It's going to be dirty, but I'm going to do it.
[00:08:26] All peoples on earth will be blessed through you.
[00:08:32] [SPEAKER SPEAKER_06]:
When are you going to stop just coming to church to be blessed and start asking God, make me a blessing?
[00:08:40] [SPEAKER SPEAKER_05]:
I want to be a blessing today to somebody, God.
[00:08:45] He said all the nations of the earth will be blessed through you and your offspring, even though you don't have children yet.
[00:08:51] God will speak about things that have not even started yet in the natural, and he'll speak it supernaturally.
[00:08:59] This is the promise I want you to receive for yourself today.
[00:09:01] Verse 15.
[00:09:02] I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I'll bring you back to this land.
[00:09:10] I will not leave you until I have done what I promised you.
[00:09:15] When Jacob awoke from his sleep, he thought, Surely the Lord is in this place.
[00:09:22] It just took me a while to catch up with.
[00:09:25] He was afraid and said, How awesome is this place!
[00:09:28] This is none other than the house of God.
[00:09:31] This is the gate of heaven.
[00:09:34] Early the next morning Jacob took the stone he had placed under his head and set it up as a pillar and poured oil on top of it.
[00:09:42] We didn't talk about any of this last week.
[00:09:43] We're going to talk about all of it today.
[00:09:46] He called that place Bethel, which means house of God.
[00:09:51] Yeah, there's not just a worship ministry out there in California.
[00:09:54] That's in the Bible.
[00:09:55] The place was called the House of God.
[00:09:57] That's what it's named after.
[00:09:58] And it's not just in one location.
[00:10:01] It's anywhere that God visits.
[00:10:03] Yeah.
[00:10:04] He called that place Bethel, though the city used to be called Luz.
[00:10:08] And Luz means almond tree.
[00:10:11] Wow, that's a big jump.
[00:10:14] From a nut tree to the house of God.
[00:10:17] Tell somebody next to you, this is crazy.
[00:10:21] Now verse 20.
[00:10:23] Then Jacob made a vow, saying, If God will be with me and will watch over me on the journey I am taking and will give me food to eat and clothes to wear so that I return safely to my father's household, then the Lord will be my God.
[00:10:41] and this stone that I have set up as a pillar will be God's house and of all that you give me God I know you're my source of all that you give me I have nothing without you of all that you give me I will give you a tenth amen verse 11 is where I want to take my title from so that I return safely to my father's household then the Lord will be my God
[00:11:11] Then the Lord will be my God.
[00:11:12] Then the Lord will be my God.
[00:11:14] The Lord told me to preach to you today three words.
[00:11:17] This is then.
[00:11:19] This is then.
[00:11:25] I can tell that's a little bit mystical or whatever, so just turn to your neighbor.
[00:11:31] Give them my subtitle.
[00:11:32] Tell them, God uses stupid.
[00:11:37] Yeah, tell them this one might be for you because, God, I have a strong feeling.
[00:11:44] Father, if you can speak through a donkey, speak through me.
[00:11:47] In Jesus' name, amen.
[00:11:50] Touch three people and say, This is your word today.
[00:11:53] This is then.
[00:11:55] God uses stupid.
[00:12:00] Now, Pastor Steve, I wish you wouldn't say words like stupid up there in the pulpit.
[00:12:04] That's not a sanctified word, and I don't appreciate it.
[00:12:07] I bring my kids into service.
[00:12:09] Well, you ought to drop them in eKids.
[00:12:10] We have excellent volunteers and juice boxes.
[00:12:19] Do we give them juice boxes in eKids?
[00:12:20] I don't know.
[00:12:21] I hadn't checked.
[00:12:25] You know how our ministry seems so strategic when you see it up there on the screens, and we have eGroups and eKids.
[00:12:33] E-teams and E-bikes and no E-cigarettes yet in the church.
[00:12:41] But it sounds so strategic.
[00:12:42] I said something last week, and I got a testimony of a miracle from one of our campus pastors, so I want to say it again to you, because miracles are already happening in this season.
[00:12:51] Miracles are already happening in this season.
[00:12:54] and he was telling me a very difficult season that he's been through and then God began to bring some resolution and he saw it and the thing that I said that helped him for his faith is that a lot of times what you explain later as strategy you experience as surrender.
[00:13:14] How many heard me say that last week from this very pulpit?
[00:13:19] I'm going to say it again.
[00:13:19] You experience a lot of things as surrender in real time.
[00:13:24] What do I mean by surrender?
[00:13:26] You don't know what else to do.
[00:13:28] Then when you get through it, you look back and you start saying, well, step one, step two, step three, step four.
[00:13:38] You know somebody else might struggle with an addiction that you came through and you're kind of coaching them later and now you're kind of arrogant because you got you know nine or ten years under your belt and you're like well the first thing you need to do and then the second thing and i found it very helpful and you may mean well but just make sure you tell them that the first thing you do is help god i need you i don't know what to do without you and some of the things that look strategic in your life you actually stumbled into if you'll be honest about it
[00:14:07] It was the hand of God guiding you.
[00:14:09] It was the voice of God calling you.
[00:14:12] It was his net that caught you.
[00:14:15] It was his word that kept you.
[00:14:19] Many of the things in our ministry that felt very strategic in year 5 and in year 10 were actually things that at the time just felt like, What do we do next, God?
[00:14:31] We are a multi-site church.
[00:14:32] Let's welcome all of our locations today.
[00:14:34] All 20 locations, our EFAM all over the world.
[00:14:39] We strategically placed these locations on a multi-site church with the campuses that we have and the model that we have so we could reach people, right?
[00:14:47] It was strategic.
[00:14:48] No.
[00:14:49] It was surrender.
[00:14:51] We were out of space.
[00:14:52] No more room to put people.
[00:14:54] What can we do?
[00:14:55] Maybe we can get another high school auditorium down the road.
[00:14:58] It was surrender.
[00:14:59] What do we do?
[00:15:00] Who do we bribe?
[00:15:00] Who do we pay off?
[00:15:02] How can we get that other auditorium?
[00:15:04] Why isn't the video working?
[00:15:05] Why isn't the video working again the next week?
[00:15:07] It's messy like that.
[00:15:09] and it's steps like that and it's trusting like that and it's falling like that and it's standing like that and it's waiting like that and it's moving like that and it's zigging and it's zagging remember and it's zigging and it's zagging and it's having and it's losing and it's getting back and this is what growth feels like more like surrender less like strategy later you can explain it as strategy you can write your book seven steps to a healthier marriage but the truth is
[00:15:37] You got down on your knees that third month of marriage and said, God, I don't believe in divorce, but I don't know where I am on murder, and if you don't help me with this white man… The strategic explanation often camouflages the surrendered experience.
[00:16:01] Why are you telling me that?
[00:16:03] Because I know right now you don't know what to do.
[00:16:06] about this thing in your life.
[00:16:07] Yet I would suggest to you personally and pastorally that God has already done enough for you to trust him.
[00:16:16] I met with a financial advisor, and the first time I met him he said, I just need you to trust me.
[00:16:20] I said, Whoa, buckaroo.
[00:16:23] We ain't about to build a trust off of one meeting when you get paid on commission.
[00:16:30] The only way trust is going to be built in this relationship is through results.
[00:16:35] That's going to take years, not months.
[00:16:38] If you need me to trust you from this meeting, just know I don't trust you one bit.
[00:16:43] I don't trust you.
[00:16:44] I don't get paid to trust you.
[00:16:45] As a matter of fact, I want you to know I am operating from a fundamental distrust of you.
[00:16:52] I am not going to work this hard to provide for my family, and then just because you have a nice smile and a button-down shirt, I'm supposed to just trust you?
[00:16:59] I have button-down shirts.
[00:17:01] Serial killers have button-down shirts.
[00:17:03] I don't trust you.
[00:17:06] You have to show me something to trust in.
[00:17:07] Is that good wisdom for business?
[00:17:12] Is that good wisdom for faith?
[00:17:15] Jacob seems to be saying here at this threshold of his own journey, I don't know if I can trust you yet, God.
[00:17:24] I don't know you like that.
[00:17:27] I don't know yet if I can fully believe what you say to me.
[00:17:32] Oh, Jacob.
[00:17:33] How dare you doubt the sovereignty of God?
[00:17:38] People, he's far from home.
[00:17:42] He doesn't have a Bible to read.
[00:17:44] He just had a dream or a vision in which he saw a staircase that went from earth to heaven, and he's supposed to just wake up and say, Let's go, God, wherever you take me.
[00:17:54] I'm with you.
[00:17:55] So he does something very interesting, and I want to show it to you, because as I studied it,
[00:18:00] Two words stood out to me in the text, and a lot of you have been listening to me preach for a long time.
[00:18:05] Show of hands or just put a raised hand in the chat.
[00:18:08] How many of you have been listening to me preach for at least one year?
[00:18:13] How many of you have been listening to me preach for about three years or more?
[00:18:16] Raise your hand.
[00:18:17] Keep them up.
[00:18:18] Five years or more.
[00:18:21] How many of you started listening to me preach before you wanted to, but somebody in your house had me preaching and you had to listen to them because they wouldn't turn it off?
[00:18:28] That's all right, too.
[00:18:29] I am not going to take this a step further and ask if you even want to be here today.
[00:18:33] I'm drawing the line.
[00:18:36] But by the time you've heard me preach, maybe you can pick up my rhythm.
[00:18:38] There's something Jacob says, and I want you to catch it.
[00:18:42] It's two words.
[00:18:43] It's kind of like a continuum he establishes here, and I believe it's the continuum we're living in as well.
[00:18:49] In verse 20, Jacob makes a vow.
[00:18:52] And in that vow he said, If God will be with me and will watch over me on this journey I am taking, and will give me food to eat and clothes to wear, so that I return safely to my father's household, then the Lord will be my God.
[00:19:04] The two words are in those two verses.
[00:19:07] And I wonder if you've been listening to me preach, Jim and Libby, for like 13, 14, 18 years, can you guess which words just went to me?
[00:19:18] Because I'm picturing this congregation that I'm preaching to.
[00:19:21] Remember, some people lost their job this week.
[00:19:23] Some people got a promotion.
[00:19:25] Some people are complaining about their job.
[00:19:27] Some people would love to snatch up the job that that person is complaining about.
[00:19:31] Somebody right here this week is saying, I've got to lose some weight.
[00:19:34] Somebody is trying to put on some weight, drinking all the protein they've got.
[00:19:38] Somebody is wishing they were single again.
[00:19:40] Somebody is saying, God, rescue me from this season of singleness.
[00:19:43] Somebody is saying, God, I don't know what to do.
[00:19:45] Somebody is saying, God, I know what to do, but I don't want to do it, so I'm going to pretend like I don't know what you want me to do so I can continue to pretend like I'm waiting for direction when really I'm procrastinating my faith and calling it patience.
[00:19:55] Everything is happening in this room.
[00:19:58] What I saw in the text, it was just two little words.
[00:20:01] Let's read it again.
[00:20:02] He said, If God will be with me and will watch over me on this journey I am taking and will give me food to eat and clothes to wear… Now, remember, God just told him, I'm going to give you the north, the south, the east,
[00:20:27] and the West, but that's going to come later.
[00:20:30] Jacob says, I don't even need you to give me real estate right now.
[00:20:35] If you will just give me food to eat and clothes to wear… Everybody say, if.
[00:20:43] If you'll do that for me, if you will be with me and give me food to eat and clothes to wear…
[00:20:51] If you will be with me, give me food to eat and clothes to wear, so that I return safely to my father's household.
[00:20:59] Then the Lord will be my God.
[00:21:03] The second word is then.
[00:21:06] If, then.
[00:21:10] If, then.
[00:21:14] Sounds like the boy thinks he can bargain with the Most High.
[00:21:18] Sounds like the boy thinks that God is trying out to be his financial advisor.
[00:21:23] Here's what we're going to do.
[00:21:24] We're going to sit down and have a quarterly meeting, and if you're profitable to me, then I'll serve you.
[00:21:29] I don't read it that way at all at this stage in my life.
[00:21:33] I think Jacob is saying, It doesn't take much for me to trust you.
[00:21:39] I just need you to show me enough, just enough, that I'll know three things.
[00:21:45] One, that you're with me.
[00:21:47] One that I've got something to eat and something to wear.
[00:21:50] I can't run through this desert naked, and I can't go to the next stop hungry.
[00:21:55] So I need you to be with me.
[00:21:56] I need you to feed me, and I need you to watch over me.
[00:22:00] I need you to be with me.
[00:22:01] I need you to watch over me.
[00:22:03] I need you to feed me, and if you'll do that much, if you'll do that much, then you'll be my God.
[00:22:15] If you'll be with me, that's a prayer for God's presence.
[00:22:20] When you pray your Thanksgiving prayer this week, thank God for his presence.
[00:22:25] When you sit down to eat a big old ham, what are you going to have this week?
[00:22:28] You know by coming to church the Sunday before Thanksgiving, your calories are automatically divided by three.
[00:22:34] Give the Lord a praise for that fake word I just gave you.
[00:22:39] I say that every year on this Sunday.
[00:22:43] For every amen you say, all of the sugar is translated into protein to build your… Wouldn't that be cool if it worked like that?
[00:22:57] When you sit down to pray, whoever is going to pray, say, Lord, I want to thank you, first of all, for your presence.
[00:23:05] You've been with me.
[00:23:07] How many know the truth that God has been with you when nobody else was?
[00:23:12] You might be there right now.
[00:23:13] It might have been last night.
[00:23:16] You were saying, God, I sure am lonely, but even in your greatest loneliness, there was light, wasn't there?
[00:23:22] Come on.
[00:23:22] Even when you were a little girl and you were 12 or 13 years old and you just felt so weird and so strange, there was something inside of you that you knew you weren't alone even though you felt alone.
[00:23:32] Even though you didn't get invited to the parties, there was something in you that knew that I have a purpose.
[00:23:38] You were never alone, not for any of it.
[00:23:40] He is present.
[00:23:43] I don't need a feeling to prove his presence.
[00:23:47] I don't need more proof of his presence than I already have.
[00:23:51] He told me he was with me, so he is with me.
[00:23:54] It's just a matter of me becoming aware of it.
[00:23:56] Surely the Lord is in this place, and I was not aware of it.
[00:24:00] So thank God for his presence.
[00:24:02] Number two, thank him for his protection.
[00:24:08] His protection.
[00:24:10] He said, Lord, if you'll be with me and if you'll watch over me, if you'll protect me, God.
[00:24:17] What does it mean that God protected me?
[00:24:19] It doesn't mean that you never broke your toe and said, ouch.
[00:24:23] It doesn't mean that he kept every weapon from being formed.
[00:24:27] It means that in spite of whatever weapon was formed,
[00:24:30] You had the faith to endure it.
[00:24:33] I want you to thank him for your shield and your buckler.
[00:24:37] I want you to thank him that there have been angels around you that kept you from car accidents you didn't see coming.
[00:24:44] I want you to thank him for slow drivers that got in front of you and you cussed at them and they kept you from getting to the next intersection where there was going to be a drunk driver but you were too busy cussing at the slow driver to know about the drunk driver so I want you to thank God for the protection that you haven't even recognized yet
[00:25:04] I want you to just go back over your life and realize that there were some things that God did.
[00:25:10] I want you to praise him for the crazy person that you asked him to make fall in love with you because you had not turned the corner and seen their crazy yet.
[00:25:18] And you found out four years later that when God said no, when you said please, God was doing you the greatest favor of your life.
[00:25:28] He was protecting you.
[00:25:29] Don't you see that?
[00:25:31] He wasn't punishing me because he hated me.
[00:25:34] He was punishing me to protect me.
[00:25:37] There is a punishment, a discipline that comes from God that is meant to protect.
[00:25:42] If God is convicting you right now of a sin in your life, I want you to praise him for his protection.
[00:25:48] He's looking out for you.
[00:25:50] He hasn't given up on you.
[00:25:51] He's not going to let your heart get so hard that you keep on doing it until you die from it.
[00:25:56] I want you to praise God for his protection.
[00:26:00] I want you to thank him that he kept your mind from going absolutely buck wild over 2025.
[00:26:06] Your mom lost her mind.
[00:26:09] [SPEAKER SPEAKER_06]:
You didn't lose yours.
[00:26:11] You kept your sanity.
[00:26:13] He brought you here.
[00:26:14] He woke you up.
[00:26:16] Look at your neighbor and say, You know what's crazy?
[00:26:18] I woke up this morning.
[00:26:22] Food on my table.
[00:26:24] Clothes on my back.
[00:26:26] I thank God for his presence.
[00:26:28] I thank God for his protection, and I thank him for his provision.
[00:26:33] How many know God to be a good, good Father?
[00:26:37] He reigns on the righteous and the unrighteous, the just and the unjust.
[00:26:42] He blessed me when I did it right.
[00:26:44] He blessed me when I turned left.
[00:26:47] He provided for me.
[00:26:49] He gave me some things.
[00:26:50] He opened some doors that nobody could shut.
[00:26:54] He closed some doors that nobody could open.
[00:26:57] He provided for me.
[00:26:59] He didn't always give me what I wanted, but he gave me what I needed.
[00:27:04] He is my Jehovah Jireh.
[00:27:07] I had the blade in the air, but there was a ram in the bush.
[00:27:11] God made a way for me.
[00:27:14] It didn't look like it would work.
[00:27:18] It felt like it shouldn't work.
[00:27:21] It probably wasn't going to work.
[00:27:24] [SPEAKER SPEAKER_03]:
I already planned out my speech, but he met me in the middle of the road, and he gave me a ring, and he gave me a robe.
[00:27:36] I'm trying to get you to praise God.
[00:27:39] [SPEAKER SPEAKER_05]:
I'm trying to you know how they they use rage bait to try to get you to go off and crash out you know that rage bait how my kids will rage bait each other well the lord told me today i have an assignment for you verdict i want you to praise bait my people
[00:27:58] [SPEAKER SPEAKER_06]:
and try to find if you can finally push the button because some of them are waiting like they don't have anything to praise me for but if you can get them to look back don't even have to look back that far just look back over your last step and you'll see that if it has not been
[00:28:25] Come on, high-five three people and say, I'm past due.
[00:28:31] I'm past due.
[00:28:31] I'm past due.
[00:28:32] What do you mean?
[00:28:33] I owe God this praise.
[00:28:40] [SPEAKER SPEAKER_03]:
I'm a praise fader.
[00:28:42] Trying to get you to think about how good he is.
[00:28:45] Trying to get you to think about the mercy he showed you.
[00:28:48] Trying to get you to think about what you have left.
[00:28:51] [SPEAKER SPEAKER_06]:
Trying to get you to think about how the rain came and the wind blew and the storm rose, but my house didn't fall.
[00:29:05] [SPEAKER UNKNOWN]:
I'm a survivor.
[00:29:05] I made it.
[00:29:05] [SPEAKER SPEAKER_06]:
My faith breaks.
[00:29:06] And now I'll break it.
[00:29:16] [SPEAKER SPEAKER_05]:
You know, somebody probably thinks you look stupid praising him like that.
[00:29:20] Somebody probably thinks you look stupid praising him like that.
[00:29:23] [SPEAKER SPEAKER_06]:
But look at your neighbor and say, After all I've seen, I'd be stupid not to.
[00:29:33] After all he does for me, I'd be stupid not to say thank you.
[00:29:42] I'd be stupid not to give him.
[00:29:43] I'd be stupid.
[00:30:01] [SPEAKER SPEAKER_05]:
Looks pretty stupid if you hadn't seen him make a way But if you were coming up on something and you didn't see a way And all you had in your hand was a staff And you saw him take something as stupid as a staff And split something as big as a seed It'll make you shake your tambourine when you get on the other side And by the way
[00:30:32] One time the Lord really spanked me.
[00:30:35] The Lord really checked me.
[00:30:36] The Lord really corrected me.
[00:30:38] Yeah, he's got a rod and a staff.
[00:30:39] One is to comfort, and one is to confront.
[00:30:44] I was telling the Lord one day, I'll be so thankful when I get through this.
[00:30:49] When I get through this, then I'll be so thankful.
[00:30:51] The Lord says, switch it.
[00:30:55] When you get thankful, you'll get through this.
[00:31:02] The way you're thinking right now, you ain't going to make it.
[00:31:08] You ain't going to make it unless you get a little crazy, get a little stupid and start thanking God for stupid stuff.
[00:31:16] I want to take it a little bit further.
[00:31:17] Not only did the things in my life that now looked the most strategic at the time seem the stupidest, but some other people said they were stupid.
[00:31:30] I told my friends I wanted to name the church Elevation.
[00:31:34] Now we have a lot of cool church names, but there weren't churches called things like Elevation.
[00:31:39] Not that many.
[00:31:40] There were some.
[00:31:41] I'm not saying I'm the originator, but I just thought, Wow, it would be great to call it Elevation.
[00:31:46] Lift up, Jesus.
[00:31:48] Lift up, people.
[00:31:50] You're going high.
[00:31:52] Elevation.
[00:31:53] I remember one dude looked at me and said, Sounds stupid.
[00:31:57] [SPEAKER SPEAKER_02]:
Sounds like the name of a youth group.
[00:32:01] I had a flashback the other day.
[00:32:20] [SPEAKER SPEAKER_05]:
I don't know if y'all remember this, Janet.
[00:32:22] Think about it now.
[00:32:24] You have Jacob, and he says this thing, "'I'm going to take this rock
[00:32:30] And I'm going to pour oil on it.
[00:32:31] He's just freaking out, man.
[00:32:33] And this rock is going to be your house, God.
[00:32:35] I'm going to turn this stone into your house.
[00:32:39] And of everything you give me… I mean, he's just disoriented.
[00:32:43] He doesn't know what to do.
[00:32:45] So he just says, If you will show me enough, if you give me your presence, your protection, your provision, I will trust you.
[00:32:52] And he pours this oil on a rock.
[00:32:56] Well, it made me think about…
[00:32:57] Some of the things we did that seemed stupid at the time when the church was young.
[00:33:01] I want to share it with these lovely people, because God still wants to use stupid today.
[00:33:08] In your family, in your athletic career, in your business, in your spiritual life, in your emotions, God wants to use what people call stupid.
[00:33:17] One of the first things I remember was when the man came to give us a strategy on giving.
[00:33:24] He said, the strategic move when you're starting a church… Now, listen to this.
[00:33:28] Tell me this doesn't sound strategic on the surface, because the world's wisdom sounds strategic on the surface.
[00:33:35] This is how you do it, and this is what you get.
[00:33:36] Then you'll be blessed, but… So, here's what he said to do.
[00:33:41] To me, it felt like a compromise of my integrity.
[00:33:44] He said, you're not going to have any money, and that was true.
[00:33:47] He said, you don't have that many members, and that was true.
[00:33:49] So each of you knows somebody who is a member of another church.
[00:33:52] Ask them for the next 24 months to redirect their tithe that they would give to their church and give it to you instead.
[00:34:00] Their church won't miss it, and it'll make or break you.
[00:34:04] I thanked him for his time.
[00:34:05] At the time, we were so broke I didn't even have any money to pay him to come and give us the speech, so I gave him a Chili's gift card.
[00:34:12] I said, Thank you for coming.
[00:34:14] That's how broke we were.
[00:34:15] In a way, what he said sounded really good.
[00:34:18] I do know some people.
[00:34:19] I've been traveling, doing ministry.
[00:34:20] I've got some contacts.
[00:34:22] Maybe I should reach out and do it that way.
[00:34:24] But the Spirit of the Lord wouldn't let me do it like that.
[00:34:27] Have you ever had the Spirit tell you to do something that seems stupid?
[00:34:34] See, that seems smart, but here's what the Lord told me to tell our team instead.
[00:34:38] I shut the door.
[00:34:39] I let him leave.
[00:34:40] I said, what he just said, if we do it that way, it might work for a while.
[00:34:48] It's going to set up a pattern where we did not build it on the rock.
[00:34:55] We have to trust God.
[00:34:58] Tell your neighbor,
[00:35:01] So I asked them, didn't I?
[00:35:03] I said, so can we do this instead?
[00:35:04] While we're still at this church waiting to go start our church, we were being sent from a church with permission and blessing.
[00:35:10] I said, while we're still under the covering of this church, let's keep giving 10% of our income to this church, and let's give an additional 10% to the one we're starting.
[00:35:20] And they all did it.
[00:35:23] As far as I know, I didn't check the W-2s to do the math, but they all did it.
[00:35:31] So when I say to you today that it is my desire as a pastor that every single family in this church, every single individual in this church, would put God first through the tithe and give 10%, I'm not telling you that because of a need we have.
[00:35:49] I'm telling you that because it's the foundation that everything you see today was built on.
[00:35:56] I say it with confidence, and I say it with clarity.
[00:36:01] [SPEAKER SPEAKER_02]:
Well, I like that first part of the sermon you were preaching, Pastor Steven.
[00:36:06] That was really good and fun.
[00:36:09] I like that calorie cancellation blessing.
[00:36:11] Can we go back to that?
[00:36:12] [SPEAKER SPEAKER_05]:
No, we can't, because now I have to talk to you.
[00:36:16] We all love the part where God said to Jacob, I'll be with you, but what about the part where Jacob said to God, If you'll be with me, then I'm with you.
[00:36:28] I always thought 10% sounded like a lot until I figured out that it all came from God.
[00:36:35] Maybe the 90 he lets me keep is a lot.
[00:36:38] Maybe the 10 he asked me to give isn't that big.
[00:36:42] I'm just talking to you about trust in God.
[00:36:49] Trust in God is not because you sang the chorus really loud.
[00:36:53] Trust in God is not because you clapped your hands on the beat.
[00:36:57] Trust in God is not because you have a good feeling about this.
[00:37:01] Trust in God is when you say, I'm in, and I know it looks stupid, but you gave it all to me.
[00:37:10] You gave it all to me anyway.
[00:37:12] Another stupid thing.
[00:37:14] Can I just tell you a little bit of a testimony of stupid stuff that God used in our life?
[00:37:19] This might help you.
[00:37:20] How many of y'all are kind of newly married?
[00:37:23] You say like a year or two or something like that.
[00:37:25] Just raise your hand at me real quick.
[00:37:27] Newly married.
[00:37:28] How many of y'all hope to be raising your hand when I ask that question in three years from now?
[00:37:32] All right.
[00:37:34] Check out the market research in here.
[00:37:37] This is a great place to come to meet all of your life needs.
[00:37:43] I came to her and I said, Woman, the Lord don't want us to be in debt.
[00:37:48] The Lord don't want us to have cars we can't afford.
[00:37:50] The Lord don't want us to have furniture we haven't paid for yet.
[00:37:54] What's the thing they have where you can pay for a jacket and put in $18 a month and be paying for it for 18 years?
[00:38:01] Klarna.
[00:38:09] I said, we're not Klarna.
[00:38:10] We're not laying away.
[00:38:11] The only way we're going to buy for something is if we can afford it.
[00:38:15] That meant our house was filled at the beginning of our marriage with furniture that came from Eric's dad's trailer.
[00:38:26] He was over the trailer park so he would repo people's furniture and save it.
[00:38:31] So our marriage was built on the foundation of furniture from the trailer park that was repoed from people who didn't pay the rent.
[00:38:38] That's who your pastor is.
[00:38:40] That's how smart I am.
[00:38:42] Follow me as I follow Christ.
[00:38:44] That's who I am, buddy.
[00:38:47] That's who I am, buddy.
[00:38:49] But I paid for everything we ever put in our house, and I don't mean that to say if you're in debt that you did it wrong.
[00:38:54] I'm just telling you, as a matter of fact, it would feel stupid sometimes when I knew we could just put it on a card.
[00:39:00] See, what the world calls wise, what the world calls strategic, God calls stupid, and what the world calls stupid, God calls strategic.
[00:39:09] Isn't that crazy?
[00:39:11] As a matter of fact, once Brother Dave Ramsey got me convinced on the emergency fund… How many of y'all did the emergency fund that Dave Ramsey talked about?
[00:39:20] It's a great practice, man.
[00:39:21] It saves three months to six months of your living expenses.
[00:39:26] and put it away so that when the tire goes flat you don't have to go in debt to replace it so we did that like in our first two years of marriage and I was so proud when that number hit I figured out what the number would be boom boom boom boom boom this how much we need to save saved it up got to the level and that night when I went to tell her in the kitchen that we've hit our emergency fund goal I felt a prompting from the Lord that I tried to rebuke as Satan and the prompting said give it all away
[00:39:58] I said, That's stupid.
[00:40:00] Not to the Lord.
[00:40:01] [SPEAKER SPEAKER_06]:
I thought it was the Devil.
[00:40:03] I thought it was the Devil, because Dave said I had to save it.
[00:40:10] [SPEAKER SPEAKER_05]:
Full disclosure, now many times over the Lord has blessed us.
[00:40:14] I have not kept my savings at zeroes every time since that day, but I remember walking in and saying, You know that emergency fund?
[00:40:24] It's about to be a missions gift.
[00:40:27] Stupid, ain't it?
[00:40:30] I know you tell me, because when we wrote those checks at that kitchen table, I remember the place.
[00:40:34] See, you never forget the place where God makes you a promise.
[00:40:39] That's why Jacob named the place Bethel.
[00:40:41] He said, This is God's house.
[00:40:43] You say, It's stupid to call a rock the house of God, not when God spoke to you there.
[00:40:48] Stupid unless you've had God speak to you there.
[00:40:52] The Lord spoke to me two sentences.
[00:40:53] He said, If you keep your hands open to me…
[00:40:56] Then you will always have everything you need.
[00:41:00] You will always be able to do everything I've called you to do.
[00:41:04] He spoke that to me at that kitchen table that came from the trailer park where he possessed furniture that was scratched up and dinged up.
[00:41:16] I had money to buy a new one, and the Lord said, This time I want you to give it.
[00:41:21] We didn't have kids yet.
[00:41:23] It wasn't like we were being irresponsible.
[00:41:24] You're like, I can already see people misapplying this message.
[00:41:28] Do you know what I mean?
[00:41:29] Like, the Lord said he would use stupid.
[00:41:33] Baby, that's the word I've been waiting for.
[00:41:36] Did you hear what pastor said today?
[00:41:38] I'm getting a boat.
[00:41:41] I'm getting a boat.
[00:41:45] The man of God said I could get a boat.
[00:41:47] Don't pervert this word.
[00:41:48] You know what I'm talking about.
[00:41:51] Keep me in context.
[00:41:55] I want to ask you a question.
[00:41:57] Was it stupid?
[00:42:00] I don't know.
[00:42:02] One of the things we gave to was this.
[00:42:05] Look around.
[00:42:14] [SPEAKER SPEAKER_03]:
Some of your kids have been baptized here.
[00:42:17] I don't think it was stupid.
[00:42:20] Some of you had your life put back together here.
[00:42:23] I don't think it was stupid.
[00:42:24] Some of you prayed to receive Christ here.
[00:42:27] I don't call that stupid.
[00:42:29] He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose.
[00:42:36] You call it stupid.
[00:42:40] [SPEAKER SPEAKER_05]:
I call it surrender.
[00:42:44] and Jacob takes the oil remember he has very little with him he's on the run and he takes the little bit of oil that he has and pours it on the rock the rock is stupid the oil is stupid the whole thing is stupid unless God is in it but God uses stupid and he says this he says I'll trust you and I'll give to you if
[00:43:13] and if you will give me food and if you will give me clothes and if you will watch out for me and watch over me if
[00:43:21] Then you will be my God.
[00:43:22] So I want to ask a question, and I need some participation on this.
[00:43:27] How many of you, if we take Jacob's rubric, if we take Jacob's grid, if we take Jacob's prayer, if we take Jacob's, not negotiation, but if we take Jacob's surrender to the Lord as a template, how many of you would say that God has been with you?
[00:43:43] Make some noise.
[00:43:50] [SPEAKER SPEAKER_03]:
How many of you would say God put food on your table?
[00:43:58] Y'all are cheering a little soft about that one.
[00:44:01] [SPEAKER SPEAKER_06]:
Maybe you're hungry right now, but I'm saying you're going to have something to eat before the sun goes down.
[00:44:08] How many of you have clothes on your body, even if the waist fits a little tighter in November than it did in January?
[00:44:17] [SPEAKER SPEAKER_05]:
Come on.
[00:44:18] I have clothes on my body, food on my table.
[00:44:22] How many would say, God has kept me alive?
[00:44:30] Jacob said, If you will be present…
[00:44:33] If you will protect and if you will provide, then you will be my God.
[00:44:42] The Lord said to tell you, if he has been with you, presence, if he has provided for you food and clothing, if he has watched out for you, protection, if he has done that for you…
[00:44:54] [SPEAKER SPEAKER_06]:
You don't need more proof.
[00:45:02] This is then.
[00:45:09] I know you've been postponing your joy.
[00:45:11] Oh, I'll be happy then.
[00:45:13] No.
[00:45:14] This is
[00:45:16] [SPEAKER SPEAKER_05]:
Then, when my kids come back to God, I'm going to throw a big party and celebrate.
[00:45:20] No, no, no.
[00:45:21] God is working in their life.
[00:45:23] [SPEAKER SPEAKER_06]:
Right now I'm going to go down this road with a praise for the prodigal, because this is
[00:45:32] Then, when I get this amount in the bank, I'll be secure.
[00:45:35] No, you won't.
[00:45:35] You'll pay taxes.
[00:45:37] So, the fact that you have enough… You had gas in the tank to get here.
[00:45:43] You had energy in your body to get here.
[00:45:46] This is then.
[00:45:53] [SPEAKER SPEAKER_05]:
You better take that rock you have and that oil you have and pour what you have on where you're at.
[00:46:02] and praise God at a kitchen table that was repoed from somebody's trailer park and ask God, what would you have me to do next for you?
[00:46:17] This is then.
[00:46:19] The Lord made Jacob a promise.
[00:46:20] I'm going to bring the blessing of the Lord through your offspring.
[00:46:26] He had no kids, but then he had 12.
[00:46:30] And then those twelve had some, and those became nations.
[00:46:34] And the nations became a tribe.
[00:46:37] Each of the nations became their own tribe.
[00:46:39] And then those tribes, they took the land that God had promised to Jacob, that he had promised to Isaac, that he had promised to Abraham.
[00:46:47] God is a promise keeper.
[00:46:49] He's a promise keeper in your life.
[00:46:51] He's not just getting started in your life.
[00:46:53] It's already in progress.
[00:46:55] The thing that you're praying about is already in progress.
[00:46:58] The thing that you're worried about he's already working on.
[00:47:01] The thing that you need he already knows it.
[00:47:03] The thing that you lack he already supplies.
[00:47:05] The thing that you're not he already is.
[00:47:08] God's already working on this.
[00:47:11] because then that nation gave birth to a Savior.
[00:47:13] Jesus came from the tribe of Judah, and the Messiah was born, and the Messiah died on a cross.
[00:47:20] The Bible says something very interesting from Jesus' own mouth in Matthew 21, verses 43 and 44.
[00:47:27] He said to them,
[00:47:40] The builders rejected has become the cornerstone.
[00:47:52] The Lord has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes.
[00:48:00] I see it now.
[00:48:01] I see that Jacob's rock was pointing to Jesus.
[00:48:05] I see that Jacob, who was the second born, not the chosen one, was the one who was blessed, was pointing to Jesus, who was born of a virgin, who became the rock on which the church was built.
[00:48:19] Now I see what Jesus means when he says that God selected what man rejected.
[00:48:26] because Jesus was what the people rejected, but it's what God wanted all along.
[00:48:32] So Jesus is saying that the thing you need is right in front of you, but you are rejecting it, and you cannot expect the blessing of God and reject the way he sends it.
[00:48:43] So God says, I know you're in a hard place right now, a rocky place right now, a place you can't fully call home right now.
[00:48:51] I understand that.
[00:48:53] Look at me.
[00:48:54] I've been praying for you this week.
[00:48:56] I've been praying that God would say what it is right now that he wants you to anoint, because you can anoint a rock, and it can become a place where God meets with you.
[00:49:06] That means you're anointed for the hard place.
[00:49:09] That means you're anointed for the difficult thing.
[00:49:12] That means God is teaching you to trust him in transition.
[00:49:17] I hear the Spirit of the Lord saying, What more do I have to do to get you to trust me?
[00:49:24] When is it going to be then for you?
[00:49:26] If experience was going to teach us to trust God, we would have trusted him by now.
[00:49:33] He has done enough for you to trust him.
[00:49:36] He has done enough for you to trust him.
[00:49:38] He can be trusted.
[00:49:40] The fact that he put you on this planet, the fact that he kept you to this day, the fact that he provided for you through every season of your life, he has done enough.
[00:49:53] [SPEAKER SPEAKER_06]:
If he never does anything else, I trust him.
[00:49:58] [SPEAKER SPEAKER_03]:
He died for me.
[00:50:01] He forgave me.
[00:50:03] He cast my sins from the east.
[00:50:07] [SPEAKER SPEAKER_05]:
to the West.
[00:50:10] You don't need more proof to trust him.
[00:50:14] You just need more practice.
[00:50:22] You need more practice saying, God, I trust you.
[00:50:29] Do you know how we get through something really hard?
[00:50:32] And we get through it, and then we forget that we told God if we got through it, we would serve him.
[00:50:38] No, no, not this time, baby.
[00:50:39] This is then.
[00:50:43] You said if God would give you the responsibility, you would shoulder it.
[00:50:46] Well, this is then.
[00:50:47] You got it, baby.
[00:50:48] You're the one for the job.
[00:50:50] You said that if God would give you the blessing, you would take care of it.
[00:50:53] This is then, and God is calling you to trust him with it, because it didn't start with you, and it's not on you to sustain it.
[00:51:03] But I'm praying that you would show up with oil to every hard place in your life this week.
[00:51:12] And I'm praying that you would do something stupid to see God do something supernatural.
[00:51:22] That is the word of the Lord.
[00:51:26] Give him praise and glory in this house.
[00:51:30] [SPEAKER SPEAKER_06]:
Give him praise and glory and thanks.
[00:51:36] If he has been good to you, then lift up a shout of praise for your own self, for your own journey.
[00:51:51] [SPEAKER SPEAKER_05]:
Everyone standing.
[00:51:53] No one moving.
[00:51:53] We'll dismiss altogether.
[00:52:02] [SPEAKER SPEAKER_04]:
This is then.
[00:52:09] [SPEAKER SPEAKER_05]:
Jacob said, If you'll just be with me, watch over me, and provide for me, then you'll be my God.
[00:52:17] I'm here to tell you he has done all three for me.
[00:52:23] Thank him for his presence.
[00:52:27] Thank him for his protection.
[00:52:29] Thank him for his provision.
[00:52:33] Everybody in this church that ain't a tither ought to be online setting up your tithing when I finish this message, and I ought not have to beg for it.
[00:52:41] God has been too good to you.
[00:52:44] What would it take?
[00:52:44] How much more would God have to do to get you to trust him?
[00:52:49] I can't afford not to trust him.
[00:52:51] He's my God.
[00:52:53] I've seen too much.
[00:52:55] [SPEAKER SPEAKER_03]:
This is the Lord's doing.
[00:53:02] [SPEAKER SPEAKER_05]:
Aren't you glad God uses stupid?
[00:53:05] That I don't have to figure it out.
[00:53:06] Just have enough faith to move forward.
[00:53:10] I want to pray.
[00:53:11] I was thinking about how do I close this message.
[00:53:13] This is such a personal thing to talk about.
[00:53:17] It's such a festive season to be in.
[00:53:20] It's festive.
[00:53:21] It's fun.
[00:53:22] It's all that, but it's also so full.
[00:53:26] Start getting panic attacks just seeing Rudolph.
[00:53:28] You know what I mean?
[00:53:29] Just want to shoot Rudolph and be like, leave me alone.
[00:53:31] Come back next December.
[00:53:33] I'm not ready for you yet.
[00:53:37] I know we're all feeling all those different things.
[00:53:39] Here I am challenging you.
[00:53:40] You're like, this dude, this preacher, coming up here talking about giving to God.
[00:53:47] Doesn't he understand how stretched we already are?
[00:53:50] Exactly.
[00:53:51] That's why you need God in this situation.
[00:53:55] and until you put him first you're never going to figure it out i think it's significant that jacob had to anoint what he had before god could give him what he promised even if all you have isn't that much what did jesus say when the disciples said we don't have enough food to feed all these what do you have bring them here to me
[00:54:20] When they brought him the fish and the loaves, he took it, he blessed it, he broke it, he gave it to them.
[00:54:24] The Bible says, Then they gave to the people as much as they wanted.
[00:54:30] The Lord said, This is then.
[00:54:35] On December 14, we'll be taking an offering for our expansion and our outreach, and it'll be wonderful.
[00:54:40] We're really taking an offering for your faith.
[00:54:43] Don't wait to do tomorrow what God is telling you to do right now.
[00:54:46] Whether it's in the area of your finances, which is thousands of you.
[00:54:49] There are thousands of people connected to this ministry who do not yet trust God in this way.
[00:54:53] Today is your day.
[00:54:56] But as I was praying how to close it, the Lord said, Don't pray about the money.
[00:55:00] Pray about the trust.
[00:55:03] Pray about the trust.
[00:55:06] That you've seen God do enough to trust him.
[00:55:09] What else would he have to do?
[00:55:10] Come here, Eric.
[00:55:12] This is my best friend since high school.
[00:55:13] Y'all give him a hand.
[00:55:14] Eric Phillips.
[00:55:21] When we were boys, I gave my life to Christ.
[00:55:24] He was still building his testimony.
[00:55:31] I love him to death, man.
[00:55:32] He was buck wild.
[00:55:33] I sat down with him, and this was on Black Friday.
[00:55:36] We were 16 years old.
[00:55:38] I remember I was a very, very passionate evangelist even before I had a church, always telling everybody that they needed to get right or get left, turn or burn.
[00:55:49] And I'm telling this guy right across the table, I'm like, you know, the Lord wants you to get saved and you can't keep living like this.
[00:55:55] I said, what's it going to take for you to give your life to the Lord?
[00:55:58] What's it going to take for God to get your attention?
[00:56:00] He said, I don't know.
[00:56:01] I'm having a lot of fun living my life.
[00:56:03] I think he's going to have to do something pretty dramatic.
[00:56:07] I said, if he does something dramatic, then will you give your life to Christ?
[00:56:11] If.
[00:56:13] Then.
[00:56:15] The next night he went out and got so drunk
[00:56:18] They had to go to the emergency room.
[00:56:19] He almost died of alcohol poisoning.
[00:56:22] The next Monday, we were sharing a testimony at the Fellowship of Christian Athletes where everybody was crying about how God came into his life.
[00:56:34] A week later, he was back running from God again because the temptation was too strong.
[00:56:39] Two or three years later, he came and said, I'm finally ready now.
[00:56:42] I'm finally ready to give my life to Christ.
[00:56:43] I'm finally ready.
[00:56:44] I said, I've seen this song and dance before.
[00:56:45] You're going to have to prove it to me this time.
[00:56:48] He said, I'm really ready now.
[00:56:49] I'm really ready to receive Jesus.
[00:56:52] We prayed.
[00:56:54] He was one of the first people who came here to start the church with us, and he's still here.
[00:57:07] I heard the question, what's it going to take for you?
[00:57:11] What's it going to take?
[00:57:12] How much more will God have to do?
[00:57:15] I'm asking you now.
[00:57:16] How much more is God going to have to do to get your attention?
[00:57:21] How much more is God going to have to show you that he can be trusted and others cannot?
[00:57:26] How much more is God going to have to do to get you to see that he has you where he wants you and you are the one he chose for that situation?
[00:57:34] How much more is God going to have to do?
[00:57:36] What is your if?
[00:57:39] Hasn't he already done it?
[00:57:41] Hasn't he already proven to you his love?
[00:57:44] Hasn't he already shown you through every season of your life that he's enough?
[00:57:49] Didn't you have warmth in the winter?
[00:57:52] Didn't you have cool in the summer?
[00:57:54] Didn't you have his hand undergirding you?
[00:57:57] Didn't you have his love calling you back home?
[00:58:00] Do you not have the forgiveness of your sins?
[00:58:02] Do you not have the assurance of your salvation?
[00:58:04] What more would God have to do to get you to trust him?
[00:58:08] I'm telling you, this is then.
[00:58:13] Bow your head and close your eyes.
[00:58:14] Thank you.
[00:58:16] I wanted to give that picture because there's somebody who's there right now.
[00:58:21] You need to give your life to Jesus.
[00:58:22] You need to trust him with your life.
[00:58:24] Some of you, you've trusted him with your life, but you're just not trusting him with this part of it.
[00:58:31] I'm going to say that again.
[00:58:34] That was the word of the Lord to somebody's heart.
[00:58:36] You've trusted him with your life, but not this part of it.
[00:58:41] How much more is he going to have to do to show you he's the God of every season, the God of every generation?
[00:58:50] I pray that you would trust God.
[00:58:54] Why don't you just lift your hands to him right now?
[00:58:58] You don't have to.
[00:58:59] I can't make you.
[00:59:00] Nobody can make you surrender.
[00:59:03] But if you will, if you give it to God…
[00:59:08] If you'll keep your hands open to me, you will always have everything you need to do everything that I've called you to do for every season of your life.
[00:59:18] I speak that over you right now in the name of Jesus.
[00:59:22] So, Father, here we are, rich and poor, great and small, happy and sad, gathered together against all odds, built on the solid rock of Jesus Christ.
[00:59:34] The one foundation that the storm can't shake
[00:59:37] Foundation of your name we came to say that this is then we're not going to trust you and rejoice in you and praise you and worship you and serve you when everything looks good sounds good feels good no no right now not when we see how it turns out right now you're good so I give you this right now and tomorrow I'll give it to you again and five minutes later I'll give it back to you surrender with every step
[01:00:01] You can put your hands down, but keep your head bowed and your eyes closed.
[01:00:05] I want to pray for somebody who needs to give your life to Jesus Christ.
[01:00:10] Please, right now, don't let this moment pass you by.
[01:00:13] What is God going to have to do to get your attention?
[01:00:18] What is God going to have to do to show you how much he loves you?
[01:00:20] He brought you here.
[01:00:22] So right now, I want to lead you in a prayer.
[01:00:25] This prayer is you expressing to God your faith in Jesus Christ.
[01:00:30] It's not a magical prayer, but a miracle happens when you pray it.
[01:00:33] For the Bible says that if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
[01:00:41] It'll happen right now.
[01:00:43] This is your then.
[01:00:44] This is the moment for you to give your life to Christ.
[01:00:47] Stop running and believe.
[01:00:49] Stop doubting and have faith.
[01:00:51] God is here, and he loves you so much.
[01:00:54] We're going to pray out loud as a church family for the benefit of those who are coming to God or coming back to God.
[01:01:01] Repeat after me.
[01:01:02] Heavenly Father, I am a sinner in need of a Savior, and I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
[01:01:14] and the Savior of the World.
[01:01:17] Today I make Jesus the Lord of my life.
[01:01:22] I believe he died that I would be forgiven and rose again to give me life.
[01:01:30] I receive this new life.
[01:01:33] This is my new beginning.
[01:01:37] I am a child of God.
[01:01:40] If you prayed that prayer, praise the Lord.
[01:01:46] [SPEAKER SPEAKER_03]:
I knew it would be a lot today.
[01:01:50] I could feel it when I preached.
[01:01:53] This is your homecoming, man.
[01:01:54] I praise God for you.
[01:01:57] [SPEAKER SPEAKER_06]:
So do all of these people.
[01:01:59] We welcome you to the family of God.
[01:02:02] Come on, give the Lord a great shout of praise!
[01:02:07] Hallelujah!
[01:02:13] [SPEAKER SPEAKER_05]:
