❓ What do these grades mean?
We do not issue this rating to attack the speaker, but to protect the listener. This ministry's overall teaching trend consistently deviates from sound doctrine. As per Romans 16:17, we identify these patterns so believers can guard their hearts.
🧐 Overview
Theological Verdict & Summary
Sermon Summary: While the parable of the sower offers a powerful call to examine our hearts, this sermon's theological foundation is compromised by a fundamental misunderstanding of the sacraments and the source of spiritual fruitfulness.
Pastoral Analysis: The pastor delivers a homiletically engaging message using vivid agricultural illustrations. However, the theological integrity is severely compromised by the assertion of transubstantiation (a Critical error) and a moralistic framework that places the burden of spiritual transformation on human effort rather than Gospel grace (Major errors). The sermon requires significant correction to align with Reformed orthodoxy.
Biblical Parallel (Archetype): Thyatira — The sermon exhibits active doctrinal deviation regarding the nature of the Eucharist, teaching a physical transformation of the elements that contradicts the Reformed confession of Christ's spiritual presence. This represents a fundamental error in theology proper and sacramentology, aligning with the warning against the 'deep things of Satan' and false teachings found in Thyatira.
Big Idea: The parable of the sower illustrates that while the seed (the Word of God) has inherent potential, the fruitfulness of that word depends on the condition of the 'soil' (the listener's heart and environment), urging believers to cultivate their hearts to bear fruit and to plant seeds of reconciliation and hope in their communities. "Thus says the Lord, Just as from the heavens the rain and snow come down till they have watered the earth, making it fertile and fruitful, giving seed to the one who sows, and bread to the one who eats. So shall my word be that comes forth from my mouth. My word shall not return to me void, but shall do my will, achieving the end for which I sent it."

"Brothers and sisters, I consider that the sufferings of this present time are as nothing compared with the glory to be revealed for us. For creation awaits with either expectation the revelation of the children of God. For creation was made subject to futility, not of its own accord, but because of the one who subjected it in hope that creation itself would be set free from slavery to corruption and share in the glorious freedom of the children of God. We all know that creation is groaning in labor pains even until now. Not only that, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, we also groan within ourselves as we wait for adoption. the redemption of our bodies."

Matthew 13:1-23
[00:17:11 ▶️ 📄]
"On that day Jesus went out of the house and sat down by the sea. Such large crowds gathered around him that he got into a boat and sat down, and the whole crowd stood along the shore. and he spoke to them at length in parables saying a sower went out to sow and as he sowed some seed fell on the path and birds came and ate it up some fell on rocky ground where it had little soil it sprang up at once because the soil was not deep and when the sun rose it was scorched and it withered for lack of roots. Some seed fell among thorns, and thorns grew up and choked it. But some seed fell on rich soil and produced fruit a hundred or sixty or thirtyfold. Whoever has ears ought to hear. The disciples approached him and said, why do you speak to them in parables he said to them in reply because knowledge of the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven has been granted to you but to them it has not been granted to one who has more will be given and he will grow rich from anyone who has not even what he has will be taken away this is why I speak to them in parables because they look but do not see, and hear but do not listen or understand. Isaiah's prophecy is fulfilled in them which says, You shall indeed hear but not understand. You shall indeed look but never see. Gross is the heart of this people. They will hardly hear with their ears. They have closed their eyes, lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their hearts, and be converted. And I heal them. But blessed are your eyes, because they see, and your ears, because they hear. Amen, I say to you, many prophets and righteous people long to see what you see, but did not see it, and to hear what you hear, but did not hear it. Hear then the parable of the sower, the seed sown on the path is the one who hears the word of the kingdom without understanding it, and the evil one comes and steals away what was sown in his heart. The seed sown on rocky ground is the one who hears the word and receives it at once with joy, but it has no root and lasts only for a time. When some tribulation or persecution comes because of the word, he immediately falls away. The seed sown among thorns is the one who hears the word, but then worldly anxiety and the lure of riches choke the word and it bears no fruit. But the seed sown on rich soil is the one who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and yields a hundred or sixty or thirtyfold."

🧭 Biblical Alignment Dashboard
Overall Verdict: Fundamentally in Error
| Category | Status | Reasoning |
|---|---|---|
| Gospel Presentation | ❌ FAIL | The Gospel Engine is compromised. The sermon fails to anchor behavioral commands in the power of the Holy Spirit, resulting in a moralistic framework where the congregation is urged to cultivate their own hearts without explicit reliance on Gospel grace. |
| Soteriology | ⚠️ WEAK | The sermon leans towards synergism by emphasizing human effort in cultivating 'soil' and removing obstacles, rather than emphasizing the monergistic work of the Spirit. |
| Bibliology | ✅ PASS | The sermon correctly identifies the Word of God as the seed, though it misidentifies the instrument of regeneration in baptism. |
| Hermeneutic | ✅ PASS | The exegesis of the Parable of the Sower is generally sound, though the application to the sacraments is theologically flawed. |
| Theology Proper | ❌ FAIL | The teaching on the Eucharist contradicts the Reformed understanding of Christ's ascended humanity and spiritual presence, asserting a physical transformation of the elements. |
| Sacramentology | ❌ FAIL | The sermon teaches transubstantiation (Critical Error) and misidentifies baptism as the regenerative instrument (Major Error), both of which are fundamental departures from Reformed sacramentology. |
| Confessional Depth | ❌ SHALLOW | The sermon lacks depth in distinguishing between sign and thing signified, and between human duty and divine grace. |
⚙️ The Core Gospel Framework
Why it matters for the final verdict: A complete Gospel framework protects a sermon from becoming man-centered. If a preacher gives commands for good behavior but leaves out the grace and atonement of the Gospel, it often results in a 🔴 Critical or 🟠 Major error for Moralism (teaching human self-improvement rather than reliance on Christ). However, if these Gospel elements are missing simply because the pastor is preaching a highly focused, practical message to mature believers (e.g., instructions on biblical marriage), our system applies a "Safe Harbor" pardon, graciously reducing the omission to a 🟡 Minor error.
❌ The Law And Wrath: Not observed in the sermon.
❌ Total Depravity And Inability: Not observed in the sermon.
❌ Active Obedience Of Christ: Not observed in the sermon.
✅ The Cross And Atonement:
"By the passion of the cross, he freed us from unending death, and by rising from the dead, he gave us life eternal." [00:39:33 ▶️ 📄]
⚠️ Theological Concerns
🔴 Critical Sacramental Transubstantiation
Root Cause: Transubstantiation
"The bread and wine offered in the Eucharist become the body and blood of Jesus Christ." [00:41:31 ▶️ 📄]
The Belief/Behavior: This asserts a physical or substantial transformation of the elements into Christ's physical body and blood.
Why It's Dangerous: This contradicts the Reformed doctrine that Christ's human body is in heaven and is spiritually communicated to believers by the Holy Spirit. It confuses the sign with the thing signified.
Biblical Correction: John 6:63 "It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life."
🟠 Major Sacramental Misidentification of Regenerative Means
Root Cause: Sacramental Regeneration
"At baptism, the seed of faith is planted in the individual." [00:28:11 ▶️ 📄]
The Belief/Behavior: This incorrectly identifies baptism as the instrument that plants the seed of faith/regeneration.
Why It's Dangerous: This undermines the biblical truth that the preached Word is the instrument of regeneration and defines baptism merely as a sign and seal. It shifts the locus of faith from the hearing of the Word to the reception of a sacrament.
Biblical Correction: 1 Peter 1:23 "Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever."
🟠 Major Homiletical Imbalance (Moralism)
Root Cause: Moralism
The Belief/Behavior: The pastor urges the congregation to examine their spiritual 'soil' and remove obstacles without explicitly anchoring these demands to the Holy Spirit or Gospel grace.
Why It's Dangerous: This results in a moralistic framework where the burden of spiritual transformation is placed on human effort rather than the monergistic work of the Holy Spirit. It risks leading the congregation to despair or self-righteousness.
Biblical Correction: Galatians 5:22-23 "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, Gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law."
✅ Commendations
Illustration | Vivid Agricultural Analogies
The pastor effectively uses the anecdote of ancient Egyptian seeds and the failed tomato garden to make the abstract concept of 'spiritual soil' tangible and memorable for the congregation.
Structure | Clear Expository Flow
The sermon follows a logical progression from the text of the Parable of the Sower to practical application, maintaining a clear narrative thread throughout the message.

[00:15:27] The Lord be with you. A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew.

[00:17:11] On that day Jesus went out of the house and sat down by the sea. Such large crowds gathered around him that he got into a boat and sat down, and the whole crowd stood along the shore.
[00:17:31] and he spoke to them at length in parables saying a sower went out to sow and as he sowed some seed fell on the path and birds came and ate it up some fell on rocky ground where it had little soil

[00:18:07] But some seed fell on rich soil and produced fruit a hundred or sixty or thirtyfold.
[00:18:16] Whoever has ears ought to hear. The disciples approached him and said, why do you speak to them in parables he said to them in reply because knowledge of the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven has been granted to you but to them it has not been granted
[00:18:35] to one who has more will be given and he will grow rich from anyone who has not even what he has will be taken away this is why I speak to them in parables because they look
[00:18:51] but do not see, and hear but do not listen or understand. Isaiah's prophecy is fulfilled in them which says, You shall indeed hear but not understand. You shall indeed look but never see.

[00:19:48] Hear then the parable of the sower, the seed sown on the path is the one who hears the word of the kingdom without understanding it, and the evil one comes and steals away what was sown in his heart.
[00:20:06] The seed sown on rocky ground is the one who hears the word and receives it at once with joy, but it has no root and lasts only for a time. When some tribulation or persecution comes
[00:20:21] because of the word, he immediately falls away. The seed sown among thorns is the one who hears the word, but then worldly anxiety and the lure of riches choke the word and it bears no fruit.
[00:20:39] But the seed sown on rich soil is the one who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and yields a hundred or sixty or thirtyfold.
[00:20:53] The Gospel of the Lord.
[00:20:59] The parable of the sower begins, A sower went out to sow.
[00:21:21] I've always been interested in seeds.
[00:21:25] Some of them are very small, like a mustard seed.
[00:21:29] And in that little seed is kind of like a blueprint for what it may become.
[00:21:37] There's some interesting things I've heard about seeds.
[00:21:41] I remember seeing a report that they found some ancient tomb in Egypt.
[00:21:48] and some of the leaders back in the old Egyptian days, they would put many items in the tomb that they thought they might need in the afterlife.
[00:21:59] You know, things like maybe tools, you know, artifacts, money, and seeds.
[00:22:07] You know, maybe wherever the chief was going to go, he might need to plant something.
[00:22:12] And so these seeds that they found were like thousands of years old and they planted them and they actually grew and the seed had potential but the potential was not realized until it was planted I had an interesting experience with seeds some years ago when I was
[00:22:35] in Charlotte I decided I was going to have a little garden at the rectory so I got a bunch of landscape timbers and I made all of these like garden boxes above ground and put in the
[00:22:47] garden soil and planted some tomatoes and they didn't really they didn't really do that well I got a few tomatoes here and there and then somebody brought me some tomatoes from the parish and I was out of town for a few days and when I came back they were all rotten so
[00:23:06] So just to practice my throwing arm, there was a brick wall behind the rectory, and below that brick wall was just hard as clay soil, just like a basketball court, you know, it was so hard.
[00:23:23] And so I just threw the tomatoes against the brick wall, and, you know, they kind of oozed down the wall.
[00:23:32] And after a while, I saw tomatoes growing in that clay there.
[00:23:35] They were actually doing better than the ones that I had planted in my garden boxes.
[00:23:40] So there's a certain mystery about seeds and planting and things.
[00:23:44] I read an article about the younger generation.
[00:23:49] And I'll be honest with you, I don't really understand all of these generations that they have these days.
[00:23:54] The X, Y, and Z.
[00:23:56] I don't really understand what all that means.
[00:23:58] But I think it has something to do with the year they were born and then what technology was around that they grew up with.
[00:24:04] Some grew up with tablets or laptops, and some grew up with iPhones and things like that.
[00:24:12] But there's all these generations.
[00:24:14] Well, anyway, the article was saying that the younger generation in general didn't have a certain knowledge of farming.
[00:24:24] And I can understand that.
[00:24:26] If you go back, say, 100 or 120 years, many more people were connected with the land.
[00:24:32] and many more family farms.
[00:24:34] Now we have sometimes these big industrial-type farms, and then we have these huge urban areas, people living in apartments and neighborhoods where they might not have much connection with it.
[00:24:46] And the article was even saying that if you go to some children, maybe younger grades, and say, you know, where does food come from?
[00:24:53] Well, from the store.
[00:24:54] You know, they have this disconnect with the land.
[00:24:58] But nevertheless, I think that the parable of the sower is still relevant, and it's a timeless lesson for us. A sower goes out to sow, and he generously casts seeds on all types of soil. We can kind of picture, you know, just throwing them out. He's
[00:25:18] probably got a pouch or something with the seeds. Now, every seed has potential. We just say all the seeds are equal they have potential but the land the types of soil they land in is all very
[00:25:35] different goes out some lands on the path well we can imagine a path is packed down people walking on it or maybe using tools implements and things on it it's it's packed down so the birds ate the
[00:25:53] seeds on rocky ground, you know, half soil, half rocks, insufficient roots scorched by the sun.
[00:26:06] Some seeds fell among thorns, and as they grew, they choked out the growth. And then some seed fell on good soil and it yielded a bountiful harvest. Now the seed was the same in each case
[00:26:26] but the situation was different. I remember when I was first studying this parable that in the Holy Land especially in biblical times all of these conditions could have existed in a small field. You know, the rocky, the path, the thorns, and the good soil, all perhaps in a
[00:26:50] small field. Now, I think there is a connection, perhaps, with our personal lives. I'm of the evaluation you know based on my observation that not not everyone fully represents the good soil it might be a little bit of rocky soil or a little bit of thorns in there but I also don't believe
[00:27:22] that the majority of people are all bad that I think perhaps there's a kind of sense we might say mixed soil that perhaps many people have. They have that potential for the fruitful harvest and also might not always work out that way. Now, the Lord's teaching is that the seed
[00:27:43] is the Word of God. The other thing about seeds is the seed is transformed by the earth.
[00:27:54] so we can say if the seed is the word of God the person is transformed by the word of God to grow we can say at baptism we had a couple baptisms yesterday just about every weekend
[00:28:11] often little children sometimes only a couple months old the seed of faith is planted now again it's the environment that will have a good part in determining whether the seed of faith will grow.
[00:28:34] You know, certainly the example of the parents, the godparents, the grandparents, the other family members, the sense of prayers, of ethics, you know, charity.
[00:28:47] All of these things will, in a sense, have a positive influence, an environmental influence on the seed of faith.
[00:28:56] a person transformed by the Word of God and the grace of the sacraments.
[00:29:05] And in the Gospel, a hundred or sixty or thirtyfold.
[00:29:11] I remember looking that up because I don't have a background in farming.
[00:29:15] What does that really mean?
[00:29:17] And the scholars would say it kind of represents 250 bushels per acre, which is you know a fruitful harvest for sure it shows that nothing is beyond the power of God the Lord's teaching is to bear fruit that will remain so and again we can
[00:29:44] again we're looking at the parable well what is the quality of our soil perhaps we can remove some rocks, some weeds, some thorns, and the fruits, the fruits of the harvest.
[00:30:02] For example, the fruits of the Holy Eucharist. There's many fruits of the Eucharist, both in Holy Communion and in adoration, but two primary fruits would be piety, our relationship with God, and charity, our relationship with others. And then finally, we can just think about seeds
[00:30:24] what seeds are we planting perhaps even in our own family our neighborhood our community parish the seeds of reconciliation for example seeds of peace seeds of of hope the seeds of consolation so anyway we can look at that what what are we planting for the future
[00:30:50] for the bountiful harvest.
[00:30:53] I believe in one God, Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.
[00:31:26] I believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, born the Father before all ages, God from God, light from light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father,
[00:31:43] Through him all things were made.
[00:31:46] For us men, for our salvation, he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.
[00:31:57] For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate.
[00:32:01] He suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day, in accordance with the Scriptures.
[00:32:08] He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
[00:32:12] He will come again and judge the living and the dead And his kingdom will have no end I believe in the Holy Spirit The Lord, the giver of life Who proceeds from the Father and the Son
[00:32:26] With the Father and the Son The Lord and glorified Who has spoken through the prophets I believe in one holy Catholic and apostolic church I confess one baptism of forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead
[00:32:44] and the life of the world to come.
[00:32:47] Amen.
[00:32:50] In hope we pray for the needs of the church and the world.
[00:33:03] [SPEAKER SPEAKER_01]
[00:33:03] That the summer days may bring time of rest and renewal.
[00:33:08] Let us pray to the Lord.
[00:33:10] Lord, hear our prayer.
[00:33:12] That civil officials and leaders may lead with wisdom and the virtues and for peaceful and just solutions for the greater good.
[00:33:22] Let us pray to the Lord.

[00:33:24] Lord, hear our prayer.

[00:38:34] [SPEAKER SPEAKER_09]
[00:38:34] the Almighty Father. May the Lord accept the sacrifice in your hands for the praise and glory of his name, for our good and the good of all his holy church. Look upon the offerings of
[00:38:50] [SPEAKER SPEAKER_07]
[00:38:50] the church, O Lord, as she makes her prayer to you, and grant that when consumed by those who believe, they may bring ever greater holiness through Christ our Lord. The Lord be with you.
[00:39:09] [SPEAKER SPEAKER_09]
[00:39:09] And with your spirit. Lift up your hearts. We lift them up. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
[00:39:16] [SPEAKER SPEAKER_07]
[00:39:16] It is right. It is truly right and just. Our duty and our salvation always and everywhere to give you thanks, Lord Holy Father Almighty and Eternal God, through Christ our Lord. For out of compassion
[00:39:33] for the waywardness that is ours, he humbled himself and was born of the Virgin. By the passion of the cross, he freed us from unending death, and by rising from the dead, he gave us life eternal.
[00:39:49] And so, with angels and archangels, with thrones and dominions, and with all the hosts and powers
[00:39:55] [SPEAKER SPEAKER_11]
[00:39:55] of heaven, we sing the hymn of your glory, as without end we acclaim. You are indeed holy,
[00:41:02] [SPEAKER SPEAKER_07]
[00:41:02] O Lord, and all you have created rightly gives you praise. For through your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, by the power and working of the Holy Spirit, you give life to all things and make
[00:41:14] them holy, and you never cease to gather a people to yourself, so that from the rising of the sun to its setting. A pure sacrifice may be offered to your name. Therefore, O Lord, we humbly implore you
[00:41:31] by the same Spirit graciously make holy these gifts we have brought to you for consecration, that they may become the body and blood of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, at whose command we celebrate these mysteries. For on the night he was betrayed, he himself took bread and giving you
[00:41:53] thanks, he said the blessing, broke the bread and gave it to his disciples saying, take this all of you and eat of it for this is my body which will be given up for you. In a similar way, when supper
[00:42:30] was ended. He took the chalice, and giving you thanks, he said the blessing and gave the chalice to his disciples, saying, Take this, all of you, and drink from it. For this is the chalice of my
[00:42:45] blood, the blood of the new and eternal covenant, which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins.
[00:42:54] Do this in memory of me.
[00:43:17] The mystery of faith.
[00:44:01] Therefore, O Lord, as we celebrate the memorial of the saving passion of your Son, his wondrous resurrection and ascension into heaven, and as we look forward to his second coming, we offer you in thanksgiving
[00:44:14] this holy and living sacrifice.
[00:44:17] Look, we pray, upon the oblation of your church and recognizing the sacrificial victim by whose death you willed to reconcile us to yourself.
[00:44:28] Grant that we, who are nourished by the body and blood of your Son and filled with His Holy Spirit, may become one body, one spirit in Christ.
[00:44:39] May He make of us an eternal offering to you so that we may obtain inheritance with your elect, especially with the most blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God with blessed Joseph, her spouse with your blessed apostles
[00:44:55] and glorious martyrs with Saint Therese and with all the saints on whose constant intercession in your presence we rely for unfailing help.
[00:45:08] May this sacrifice of our reconciliation we pray, O Lord advance the peace and salvation of all the world be pleased to confirm in faith and charity your pilgrim church on earth with your servant Leo, our Pope,

[00:45:59] to your kingdom there we hope to enjoy forever the fullness of your glory through Christ our Lord through whom you bestow on the world all that is good.
[00:46:17] Through him and with him and in him, O God, almighty Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honor is yours forever and ever.
[00:46:38] At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, We dare to say Our Father, who art in heaven Hallowed be thy name Thy kingdom come Thy will be done On earth as it is in heaven
[00:47:16] Give us this day our daily bread And forgive us our trespasses As we forgive those who trespass against us And lead us not into temptation But deliver us from evil Deliver us, Lord, we pray
[00:47:33] from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that by the help of your mercy we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of
[00:47:49] our Savior, Jesus Christ. Lord Jesus Christ, you said to your apostles, peace I leave you, my peace I give you.
[00:48:03] Look not on our sins, but on the faith of your church and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will who live and reign forever and ever.
