[00:06:12] Rather than testifying, some people are testifying.

[00:06:18] See, you can't measure the impact of your story.
[00:06:24] It's not in how loud you are, how eloquent you are.
[00:06:29] I promise that's not what it is.
[00:06:31] When we're genuine, see, that's what counts.
[00:06:35] When we're genuine, it goes right to the heart of another person.
[00:06:40] and it impacts their lives that's why God don't want them trying to be phonies and fake it and be like somebody else be who he made you to be and tell your own story everybody got us through, everybody's been through
[00:06:59] something, God has you can't, I don't believe you can be a child of God without having experienced some miracles somewhere in your life come on somebody it wasn't supposed to happen, you know it wasn't supposed
[00:07:11] to happen you're not supposed to be where you are but god did something to get you to where you are am i right somebody all right that's so let us stand and do the call to worship oh come let us
[00:07:27] worship the lord and let us bow down before god our creator for we are his people and the sheep of his pasture the hour cometh and now is when the true worshipers of the father shall worship
[00:07:39] him in spirit and in truth but they are the kind of worshipers the father seeks god is spirit and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. Let us pray. Gracious God

[00:14:04] and I really mean that, amen, I make it clear to every church I pass, it's not my job to be a cheerleader, I don't wear, I don't have pom-poms, amen, you ought to be happy before
[00:14:16] you get here, that's what the word says, am I right somebody, and so if we don't do our part by being happy when we get here don't blame me so I didn't feel anything I did but anyway okay
[00:14:28] okay okay that's enough so our scripture lesson this morning is from Deuteronomy the eighth chapter now we're going to go deeper amen and uh starting at verse 10 I want you to pay close attention because I you know there's many points where I believe that uh we get trapped at and I
[00:14:54] really believe this is what Moses is saying to the children of Israel.
[00:14:58] Now, this is a sticking point where you can get trapped. I believe this is one of those points.
[00:15:05] He's cautioning them.
[00:15:07] Alright? So, Deuteronomy, the 8th chapter, starting at verse 10.
[00:15:13] We'll read 10 through 19.
[00:15:15] When you have eaten and had your fill, like what the NIV said, when you have eaten and are satisfied, be sure to praise the lord your god for the good land he has given you now listen say that again now hear me
[00:15:31] good when you have eaten and had your fill be sure to praise the lord your god for the good land he has given you watch what verse 11 says but that is the time to be careful beware that in your
[00:15:58] plenty you do not forget the lord your god and disobey his commands regulations and decrees that i'm giving you today for when you uh have become prosperous and have built fine homes to live in
[00:16:19] and your flocks and your herds have become very large and your silver and gold have multiplied along with everything else be careful do not become proud proud at that time and forget the lord your god who rescued you from slavery in the land of egypt do not forget that he led you
[00:16:53] through the great and terrifying wilderness with his poison of snakes and scorpions where it was so hot and dry he gave you water from the rock he fed you with manna in the wilderness a food
[00:17:11] unknown to your ancestors and why is this why god did it not the devil he did this to humble you and test you for your own good he did all of this so you would never say to yourself
[00:17:33] I have achieved this wealth with my own strength and energy remember the Lord your God he is the one who gives you power to become successful in order to fulfill the covenant he confirmed to your ancestors with an oath
[00:17:57] but I assure you this if you forget the lord your god and follow other gods worshiping and bowing down to them then you will certainly be destroyed let me just read just got one more verse just as the lord had
[00:18:16] destroyed the other nations in your path you also would be destroyed if you know watch what he says he uses another strong word if you refuse to obey the lord your god now he said that because
[00:18:31] especially when you get to the prophet, you're going to find God saying this I sent my prophets to tell you over and over and over again. Now can I paraphrase what God was saying to them?
[00:18:45] Y'all was just hard headed and you wouldn't listen. Now you ever had I know not our children, you ever known the children to be just be hard headed?
[00:18:54] Come on somebody, huh? And you can tell them over and over and over again. Does it matter? No. They're going to keep doing it right? Until something bad happens. Anybody know what I'm talking about? Everybody knows some other
[00:19:07] folk got hard-headed children. I know we don't. Amen. But we know some, am I right? We've seen them in stores and everywhere else, right? All right. So we'll leave that where it is. Oh, I can tell you
[00:19:21] right now what the subject is going to be. Praise, colon, the antidote to pride. So I know people we think sometimes I don't believe in praise.
[00:19:35] Oh, yes, I do. But I want you to balance it out this morning.
[00:19:41] And I'm just going to tell you right now, God don't mean just lip service.
[00:19:46] I didn't say he don't mean lip service.
[00:19:49] To say it, you know, with the lips.
[00:19:51] But that's praise is so much more involved than just saying something with my mouth.
[00:19:57] Which is where the church has gone today. Just say it with your mouth.
[00:20:02] okay so really you have no choice huh if you're going to be uh do what god tell us to do but to praise him it's not an option anybody listening to me amen i've been studying this
[00:20:28] stuff a long time now i'll study every a whole or order of worship where every element of worship is for and what it is about huh and why we do it in the worship amen somebody i'm telling you
[00:20:41] I can go all the way down the line everything we do is to lead us somewhere amen I can go and tell you right now it prepares for the word oh lord have mercy amen now I until I
[00:20:58] mom I forgot I really didn't but you know what I normally pray at least once every quarter anyway and I feel I need to do that especially beginning of the conference year but please remind me to have that
[00:21:10] conversation because i want to do things properly and in order are y'all with me church amen would y'all be mad if i pray right here amen well you do tell me tomorrow don't bother me today
[00:21:24] by that time you've been to cool off amen okay let's pray gracious god our father we come this morning with thanksgiving in our hearts rather than being so quick and hasty to ask you for
[00:21:40] something else we would have paused and said thank you for what you've already done we didn't bring ourselves through last week into another week it was by your mighty hand of power your grace your mercy and your love that you allowed us to come to the uh the first sunday and another week
[00:22:03] and father we said thank you we realize that we've been through many seen and unseen dangers There's some things we may have been aware of But there are other things We're totally oblivious of We have no knowledge
[00:22:18] Oh God that our lives may have been in danger But at the same time You kept us and you protected us And we pause this morning And say thank you May not feel the best that we
[00:22:34] Always have but Thank you that we feel as well as we do Things can always be worse And so we Thank you God thank you for whatever or however way you blessed us may not be what I want
[00:22:52] but I know it's what I need because you promised to supply all of our needs according to your riches and glory and we say thank you Lord thank you as my father used to say all the time
[00:23:05] for clothing us in our right mind giving us health and strength in our bodies and giving us a mind to come to the house of prayer father we say thank you Thank you for giving us a mind to worship you, for your words are to be praised, and our soul cries out this morning, hallelujah, hallelujah, thank you Jesus for all that you do.
[00:23:33] Feels like the psalm is divided 10,000 times and in our language today, we're 10 zillion times We still couldn't say thanks enough For as we're thanking you for one blessing you've already given us health and strength
[00:23:50] What to say to open our mouth just for that blessing and we said thank you Thank you Lord for Seals Creek Thank you for all of our members bless us oh God as we stand in need of I know sometimes we ask for stuff that we
[00:24:08] may not need and then sometimes we may fail to ask for what we do need so let us be like Solomon this morning oh God give us a discerning heart give us understanding give us a mind oh God to do what you tell us to do and then
[00:24:27] father there be any sickness or disease or whatever among us no matter what the diagnosis may be ultimately the prognosis is in your hands and so we ask oh god by your mighty hand of power
[00:24:45] that you move regulate minds this morning oh god that may be disturbed by something Give us peace That passes all understanding That's just what we live in hurt Somebody may be hurting this morning May be concerned about their loved one this morning
[00:25:12] Pray for them right now We pray for the church everywhere The church oh God Your church Our church But the church that Christ died for To do what thus said the Lord God of Israel
[00:25:30] Help us to be reminded Of what we're called to do To make disciples of all nations and then God we pray that nations will learn to get along and sometimes that is just minding your own
[00:25:45] business and staying out of other folks business and above all we thank you for Jesus who shed his blood on Calvary's cross when we go through our trials and tribulations help us to never be so
[00:26:06] focused on self that we forget about what Christ went through and he didn't have to do it many times we've done things that to bring about our own problems but he did nothing to cause his fact he took over
[00:26:22] our sins oh god and dies for the sins of the whole world so we thank you for jesus this morning and then the part we don't talk much about thank you god for the indwelling of the holy spirit
[00:26:38] that christ has come to live on this you come to live on the inside of us through the person of the Holy Spirit.
[00:26:46] So if you give your name, praise, glory, and honor, even right now, in the marvelous and majestic name of our Lord and great Savior, Jesus, who is the Christ, we pray.

[00:27:18] Whenever you want to call that, it doesn't make no difference.
[00:27:20] If you're a Christian, there's one church.

[00:27:24] You know, sometimes we have so many churches because we can't get along.
[00:27:28] In the body of Christ.
[00:27:31] Let's leave that where it is.
[00:27:33] But there's one church.
[00:27:35] Both apostolic and universal, let us affirm our faith. I believe in God, the Father Almighty, the maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, the only Son of our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the
[00:27:48] Virgin Mary, suffered on the Pontius Pilate was crucified dead and buried. The third day he rose from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty.

[00:36:34] tech team give God some praise for yourselves amen our graduates it. Amen. Whether they're here or not, we give God some praise for them and children. I think this is Children's Day across our church. We give
[00:36:48] God some praise for our children as well.
[00:36:53] Amen. So again, we're going to deal with the subject matter this morning.
[00:37:00] Praise the antidote to pride.
[00:37:04] Pride is a monster.
[00:37:07] amen my pastor at home used to say sometimes people argue with you all day rather than just saying I'm sorry I was wrong amen amen they'd rather argue you know or they won't admit it I don't know
[00:37:27] I mean I got my notes but I don't know how it's going to be delivered I really don't been wrestling with that and I thought about just walking through the text and that maybe what we're
[00:37:38] going to do to pay attention to what the Lord is saying.
[00:37:41] But this is the point where we are vulnerable and we are likely to go astray.
[00:37:47] I'm generalizing.
[00:37:49] So when God keeps cautioning us on something, he knows what sin, and go back, what sin has done to us.
[00:37:58] See, that's what he's dealing with.
[00:37:59] He knows what sin, like we're doing COVID, and to give us all of these precautions about what to do and what not to do.

[00:38:08] You know, to keep from getting the virus.
[00:38:11] right you know and how many of us had all these wipes disinfecting wipes come on somebody and you couldn't hardly find it in different places amen and uh to make sure we we had we always had
[00:38:25] some and when we travel we always keep these little wet ones single wipes we've been using those for years anyway because you don't know what you're gonna find on the plane amen and i have one member she's all she never flies without a mask i mean they were long before covid because
[00:38:40] that's a point all kind of germs are still being there you know on the plane that you don't know what you inhaling on the plane but that's what the point I'm trying to make is they were saying that the virus can affect us and where we
[00:38:53] were the vulnerable spots even the identified states that in cities that were more hot spot and Detroit was in Michigan of itself but especially of Detroit was one of those hot spots and I remember after so many people had died maybe
[00:39:11] like 1500 or so and they asked people that were willing to send a photograph of their members or their family loved ones and they put those photographs out there on bail out you can drive
[00:39:22] around and my wife and I did it was just absolutely amazing or maybe I should say devastated to see so many people who have been impacted in terms of death during COVID. And me, honestly, I got
[00:39:39] laid on my heart to close the church before the state ever gave the state of emergency to close it down because I'm aware of what Scripture said, and I'm going to leave that where it is.
[00:39:51] But we had too many folk going around saying that I can go anywhere I want to go. I'm covered by the blood.
[00:39:57] And a lot of folk died.
[00:39:58] saying that too are y'all with me now you know they're not knowing that god had instituted quarantining and those who had leprosy they had to cry out leprosy leprosy so that the people would know don't get too close to them all right and god that's why god put them outside the camp
[00:40:17] so they wouldn't infect anybody else amen amen somebody and so we had to wear masks and all but now i'm gonna get away from all of this stuff and some said they didn't believe in wearing a mask
[00:40:27] because the covid was a hoax and and they died from it but the point is what they were trying to warn us are areas where we could be very vulnerable and to keep from catching it uh we
[00:40:39] need to take these precautions likewise in this text this is exactly what moses is trying to tell the children of israel now remember he's not going but he's giving them some advice the word of god
[00:40:56] and you're always going to hear Mary say this, until the church understand what I call the depravity of sin we'll never take the measures we need to take to correct it or to prevent sin
[00:41:13] from damaging us like it does in other words, folk that didn't understand and wouldn't accept the seriousness of COVID got affected by it, at least many of them did am I right somebody?
[00:41:27] well likewise what people go by is that i am a good person and nobody is good enough to go to heaven and the bible makes it clear that i cannot think without god now think of a good thought
[00:41:44] see that's the problem people convinced again which i cannot be saved until i understand in me. I was born corrupt. Come here. Hear what I'm saying here. That is a descendant of Adam. Well, boom.
[00:42:31] You say, I'm going to take the measures I need to take.
[00:42:33] If I'm convinced I'm so holy and thou, holier than thou.
[00:42:37] Huh? Didn't that David say I was conceived in sin?

[00:42:46] Okay, how many of us got perfect parents?
[00:42:49] Well, then you were conceived in sin. Come on now. Talk back. How many of y'all got perfect parents? Nobody, right?

[00:43:10] Not even Jesus called himself good. When they said, good teacher, why calleth thou me good?
[00:43:18] And watch what he says. There is none good but the Father.
[00:43:24] Now, here's what he's saying.
[00:43:26] All goodness come from God and God alone. If it doesn't come from God, it's not good.
[00:43:34] Use human standards.
[00:43:41] Don't even try something to be better because they feel they're good enough. I'm a good person.
[00:43:45] You have to have a person to not say you believe they're going to heaven. You know what they're going to say?
[00:43:49] I'm a good person.
[00:43:52] Let's move on now from this.
[00:43:54] But this is what's going on in the text.
[00:43:56] Moses is trying to let them know our weak points that when God blesses us, that's our most vulnerable moment.
[00:44:04] I tell you what they tell us as preachers, and God knows it's true.
[00:44:10] I was going to the point where we would preach a powerful sermon.
[00:44:14] Power has gone.
[00:44:22] Come on, somebody.
[00:44:23] When Elijah had his great experience on Mount Carmel, and he came from heaven and stood on the prophets of fire and soaked up the water and lit a fire.
[00:44:45] Elijah got a text from Jezebel saying, by tomorrow this time you shall surely die.
[00:44:50] just what he did ran like a horse see this is what sometimes we don't understand our most vulnerable when god blesses us huh this is what most is going on right now huh and we don't look at it that way i'm again i'm generalized it's always gonna be somebody
[00:45:13] to understand but as a general rule we don't see it that way well but we think god and i really tight now but yeah that's what i'm most vulnerable amen somebody and this is what he's
[00:45:25] trying to tell the people right now when you eat and are satisfied praise the lord huh i know i'm right about it church and let me just go ahead and say it just what i mean i don't know how he's

[01:28:38] So So, five days and counting, we will be celebrating our third annual Juneteenth Festival in Kannapolis.
[01:28:47] I'm super excited about it.
[01:28:49] We're doing something right for the buzz that we've had in the city.
[01:28:57] We do have a lot of exciting things planned for those who will be joining us.
[01:29:01] Our program is always in Veterans Park downtown, and this year it will be from 3 p.m. to 9 but we have other things as well I'm glad you asked what those were also in the ballpark we'll have what we call the org fair so there'll be organizations
[01:29:18] and nonprofit organizations where you can learn some information but one of our community sponsors who's also a part of my community Belto enrichment center they'll be providing free until it's gone cotton candy and snow cones but in
[01:29:34] the ballpark starting at 7 p.m. from 7 to 9. Remember, the Titans will be playing. We invite folks to go there, have your blanket if you want to literally sit out in the outfield, but you can also sit in the stadium chairs as well. Then, for those of us who are going
[01:29:53] to be ready to relax after being in Veterans Park, we'll also have a saxophonist playing, and that'll be actually on the terrace of stadium loss so you literally will go through a restaurant and go up the stairs there's also an elevator for
[01:30:08] those who may have challenges with steps but we'll be on the terrace from 8 p.m.
[01:30:13] to 11 p.m. again yes there's some overlap however we hope that you join us in some capacity despite all the not-so-great comments we it's a lot more positive and And we are looking forward to bringing these events, these festivities to you all.
